HELP- Need New 01 CLK55 Bumper Options

Well I lowered my 2001 CLK55 with H&R springs two weeks ago (looks and rides great) but a week later I backed out of a driveway and the bumper caught and cracked the bottom in several places. Crap.

I am now looking for suggestions on a replacement. I don't think I am interested in the Carlson or Lorinser bumpers that I have seen, as they look lower than the stock AMG. Is that correct? What good looking options do I have? The dealer quoted me $1,243.60 to replace and repaint a new 2001 AMG bumper. Does the Euro bumber fit this car without much work? Also, If I paint the side marker lights silver at the same time will the lights shine through? Any suggestions are very welcome. Thanks for your help.

Ouch...that happened to me a few weeks ago. So far the car is garaged waiting for the Carlsson RS bumper. You are right the Carlsson and Lorinser will be much lower that the stock AMG kit. There really isn't another alternative other than buying another AMG front bumper. If you paint the sidemarker, the light should not shine through. Some folks with silver cars are also opting for the clear sidemarker lights. If you don't want to pay full price for the AMG bumper you can hold out and buy one from Ebay. Good luck on your choice and keep us posted!!

I tore my AMG bumper a couple years ago. It started small, but two weeks ago I did it again and this time it's mangled. I bought a nice used AMG bumper on Ebay for about $200 and am now shopping around for paint estimates. I'm going to install it myself as I've taken it off before (for xenon retrofits) and it's not a hard job. You might want to consider a similar approach.

As far as aftermarket options, besides the popular Carlsson RS and Lorinser DTM kits, there is also the Lorinser Edition and the kit by Expression, or you could always put on the CLK320 front and add the Brabus or Reiger lip to it.

By the way, if you paint your side markers the bulb will likely shine through. I have E v o Sport painted markers and the bulb shines through (see pic below).

Your options for dealing with the shine are 1) take the bulb out and live with the "check lights" error; 2) leave the bulb in but push it inside the bumper; 3) take out the bulb and wire in a resistor. I've just been living with the shine for now until I get around to pouring some dark paint inside the lens. No idea if that will work but we'll see. I didn't like how the clear lenses looked compared to the painted ones.

with a white or silver bumper there is no way to hold the light in.,,. just wirte a 10W resistor in.

Thanks

Well, I am going through the dealer as this is an insurance claim and I have to pay the deductable no matter what the cost of repair is. So I ordered a new bumber from the dealer for $805.00 and it will be painted (including side marker lights) and installed for a total of $1,260.00. Thank you everyone for your input.

E320CDI, CLK55, and a Smart
I cracked my bumper the same way. H&R springs and a parking curb. Riped the front bumper in two spots. There are some bumper repair places that will plastic weld the pieces back together. So there is that route also.

Seems like your issue is taken cared of already, but this could be used for future reference.
