CLK 55 motor swap?

Has anyone ever swaped their CLK 430/320 motor for CLK 55 motor? Is it more work than it's worth?

I have not, but from what I've read on the forums it would be a drop-in replacement in a clk430. The computer should be able to adapt and supply the right amount of fuel etc. One issue that has been raised is whether or not the 430's less robust transmissiion could handle the extra power. I priced 55 engines at some junk yards.....7500 and up. But since my engine only has 30k, I cannnot justify the swap.

The CLK55 tranny is not the same as the 430 tranny. You will need engine/tranny/ECU as far as I know. Cheaper to sell the 430 and buy a 55.

Original transmission should be fine. The hp increase is not as much as supercharging. You need to reflash the stock ECU with new engine's ecu program. Powerchip or other chip company can help you with this. I got a quote for $1500 to do the engine swap.

Somebody did a comparison either here or the other board one time. There were a number of significant differences; anyone who knows what they're doing can swap engines but I'll bet you're buying a new tranny pretty soon among other things. Bad idea IMHO.

My transmission went bad on my CLK430 over a year ago. I tried to get a 55 tranny and I was told it wouldnt work. I even had a newer clk430 tranny sent to the shop and it bolted up but it didnt work cuz one had a hose and the other didnt or some crap.
