I like he car but when I have to pay 247 at the RBM Mercedes dealership in Buckhead / ATlanta, GA for a damm key, thats rediculous. I would love to know what it actually costs to get these keys made, what the markup is on them. You buy the car with the pains I suppose. I may be going back to BMW.

Thanks to the person that said HA HA and thanks to the person with such great advise as too never losing the key. Wow why did I not think of that. Yes I'am the one with the 3 year old that flushed the key down the toilet. Yesterday, my buddy pushed me into the pool, with shoes and all not knowing tat I had my car keys with me. I then started laughing. He asked, why are you laughing. I said you owe me lots of money. We went to the Benz dealer today and he almost choked when he took out his Amex.

My dad owns a very big exotic car lot, and about 5 gas stations, and a couple repair shops.

Key
I too only received one key with my car when I purchased it. After taking it into the MB dealer in my area I asked about getting another one for my wife and was told it would cost $160. $130 attached to the cost of the black plastic housing (remote) and an extra $30 for the metal key that slides into the housing.

I thought that was quite a bit. But your quoted price seems outrageous.

Key
I've actually bought a key on Ebay. You have to take it to MB to get it reprogrammed and then have the metal part cut, but it could save you a lot of money.

You actually purchased a key form Ebay, took it to MB in Miami, and they reprogrammed the key? Wow, I've never heard of that. Has anyone else done this?

New key reprograming
I had to buy a new key also but one of the SA told me something useful
Every car came with 2 keys (atleast here in Canada) ...So if you only have 1 key that means there is another somewhere out there.
When you get your new key programmed they suggested me to cancel out the key i dont have and have a new code on that "same" key.
It sounds s bit confusing but the SA draw a chart basicly 5 keys 2 coding to each key. A new car has key1/code1 and key2/code1 .If one of them lost most dealers will give you key3/code1 (but the lost key is still out there) so just get the lost key (ex:key1/code1) replaced with key1/code2

these keys are pretty water proof...i got pushed into the pool with my smart key once and i accidently left it in my pants as i washed it

I let it air dry after the pool incident and it worked fine.
When i accidently washed it, it would turn on the car but wouldn't unlock/lock the doors. I took it in to mercedes and they replaced it for free.
