$247.00 for a damm key
2.) in my 5 yrs of owning a benz, i've never lost a key... if u do the same, then u have nothing to worry about
LOL, getting pushed in the pool, that happened to me, I had every thing soaked, luckily my keys were still fine, first thing i threw out of the pool in a split second... that would have sucked, I carry a BMW and a MB key with me all the time.

I thought that was quite a bit. But your quoted price seems outrageous.
Every car came with 2 keys (atleast here in Canada) ...So if you only have 1 key that means there is another somewhere out there.
When you get your new key programmed they suggested me to cancel out the key i dont have and have a new code on that "same" key.
It sounds s bit confusing but the SA draw a chart basicly 5 keys 2 coding to each key. A new car has key1/code1 and key2/code1 .If one of them lost most dealers will give you key3/code1 (but the lost key is still out there) so just get the lost key (ex:key1/code1) replaced with key1/code2
these keys are pretty water proof...i got pushed into the pool with my smart key once and i accidently left it in my pants as i washed it

I let it air dry after the pool incident and it worked fine.
When i accidently washed it, it would turn on the car but wouldn't unlock/lock the doors. I took it in to mercedes and they replaced it for free.
