Unhappy Staggered Tire Rotation

It's about time for me to rotate my 19 inch wheels and tires. I have a staggered setup and I called around for a tire rotation and it costs me $220. Is this right? I didnt know it was that much!!!

Obviuosly, I need to remount all 4 tires and exchange them from left to right and vice versa. But gosh, $220!?!?!?!

If anyone knows of a cheaper place in Southern California where I can do this...it would be highly appreciated.

Not without removing them from the rims and re-mounting.

this is an America's Tire quote. they said this is 2 hours of labor because of the size of the wheels. I guess this is a legit price. Ill just extend another 10k miles cuz im only going to rotate once.

HOLY COW..........over $200.00 for rotate them tires?

I guess I am lucky..........I have friends that works at tires shops
and they usually charge me $30.00 to do all 4's for my 18"
and $50.00 to do all 4's on 19's

this is including dismounting, remounting, and balancing all four tires

anything over 17" rims are tough to demount and remount since most of the time requires two to three person to hold the tires in and out of the rims

make sure the shop use a plastic cover on their tools or they will scratch you nice rims up........

remounting and rebalancing can be quite expensive if you go to a chain tire shop, try a local tire shop / independent. I pay $10 bucks for mine and $7 bucks for flat/nail repair done the right way where they dismount the tires and grind down the hole and reseal and then place a patch on the inside, none of the plug crap.

If you are close pomona, or willing to drive, go to Andy's tire, best deal in town, I drive from SGV to Pomona sometimes if i need to do that many flips on tires.

I answered my own question:

Rotating by remounting is like putting on new tires. So the cost is roughly $18/19 per tire/rim + tax.

WNYCEC is right. Rotating left to right by removing the rim wouldn't help. The tires would still run on the same edge as it did prior to rotating. Directional staggered setup doesn't allow for any other rotation other than left to right which isn't even worth doing...let alone it costing $80-100 to do.

Closed thread...

That seems like a lot of money for a rotation. I go to costco to get my tires rotated and the last time i went it was $10 a rim ( had 18's staggered ). So $200 seems like a lot to me.

The $200 price is dismounting the actual rim from each tire and installing it back on. The price you're looking at for $10/a pop is for simply taking the tire/rim off the car and bolting it back onto another side. Your $10 thing takes 5 min total. Removing the actual rim takes a bit longer.

I pay $50 to get the wheels off the car, the tires off the wheel...remounted on the other side, balanced, and back on to the car, i have 18" staggered... I do this every 5000 miles.... it REALY extends the life of my tires, specially with the aggressive camber im running!!

Telling us the good deal doesn't really help the rest of us unless you tell us where. what shop, how you found it...etc.

Mercedes-Benz of Valencia. Southern California. $125. I don't personally rotate, but that's the total I was charged to
  • Dismount four tires
  • Mount four brand new tires
  • Balance four wheels
  • Disposal fee for old tires
Other tires stores should be cheaper, but as soon as they see Mercedes-Benz, many of them use the "other" fee schedule for parts and services. Sounds like OJWerks found a shop that doesn't charge based on manufacturer.

Zoomie, $10/ a pop is for dismount flip and remount, not for tire rotation at costco, back in the day Costco use to do it without buying tires from them, and at Andys tires in Pomona. I use to do it all the time with the bad camber and before the camber kit. and yes, its dismount, swap the tires, remount, then balance, and then mount back on to the car for $10...your being taking for a ride if they are asking $200

We're talknig about directional tires which means the tire has to be removed from the rim. I don't have equipment to do that myself. I can't imagine most of us do.
