running 275 or 265 in the rear?
Anyone running 275 (tire width) in the rear? I'm purchasing a set of DPE's soon and dont know if i shoudl go 265 or 275 in the rear. I dont wanna **** up the machanics of the car etcc... but wider is preferable. Any Insight would be appreciated.

I am running 275s in the rear, but the tire must have a round edge profile otherwise you will rub constantly. For example, I have used Nittos in 265 (car is lowered) and I would rub when I had passengers in the rear and whenever I went over a dip on the freeway. Nittos have a square profile. I then switched to Toyo 265 and I had no rubbing problems on freeway. I then decided to try Toyo 275 and again I have the same situation on the freeway whenever I have passengers in the rear. The rubbing is not bad, I can live with it for the amount of times that I have passengers in the rear. Hopefully this will help you.

You are right BB, however a 265 tire in Toyo is not as wide as a 265 Nitto. Believe it or not there is a noticeable difference between the Toyo's 265 & 275. Keep in mind that if you are lowered and you have a full trunk plus passengers in the rear you do have the potential to rub even with 265's. It happened on my car, but I've heard that every car is slightly different when it comes to wheel and tire combination.

I have Nitto 555s (265/35-18) that were on a set of used wheels I purchased earlier this year. No rubbing whatsoever with the euro-spec springs, but the W208 CLK55 comes with the fenders rolled from the factory....clearance may be different.

if your car is slammed the only way you won't rub is if you go with a Falken or Toyo tire, i have played around with a couple set of tires (perelli, kumho, mich, Venus, etc) and found out that Toyo T1-R's and Falken ST-115's have the best rounded wall to avoid the rubbing

I've ran both 265 & 275. I honestly prefer 275s, but you probably won't notice any difference in handling. It's does give the car a wider stance, and it's just looks cooler!
I've never had and rubbing issues as well. Lowered with Bilstein sport, and H&R sport springs. (Stock spring pads)

Do the 275 really make that much of a difference?

I think the offset of the rims also play a role on whether going with 275 will rub or not. Most people here have et35 I believe. For those with 275/30/19 in the rear, can you also post your rims offset. Thanks guys.

I run this set up with Michelin PS2. rubs with full fuel over a dip on the freeway. Love the handling of the PS2.

Difference From 265 to 275 in Section Width
I have compared a 265/30/19 Goodyear Eagle F1 DS-D3 tire to a 275/30/19 tire. The "section width" for the 265 is 10.7" and the 275 is 10.9". That is not much difference in section width. The price difference per tire however is- over $100.00 per tire. Based on the price difference, minimal gain and potential for rubbing, it may not be worth it to purchase a 275 width tire.

As far as performance, it's probably very minimal. If anything 275's offer a little more wheel (lip) protection when you run a 10 inch rear. 265's seem to look a little stretched in my opinion.

Thanks for the insight guys, the recommened rear tire from my wheel manufacturer is 265/30/19 for the rear.
I was thinking of rolling my fenders and going with 275/30/19 if it really gave it more of a visual presence, but I am also thinking of going with the Falkan's because they have a rim protection sidewall design.

Wheel/Tire width
I just bought a 2001 clk55 last Saturday and it came with 18" monoblocks on it and the original amg wheels in the trunk/backseat. I sort of felt like the 18's might hinder the handling of the car but they look really nice and I haven't tried the stock setup (rear tires are seriously worn) to compare but the handling probably isn't THAT changed is it? The 18" wheels are wearing Falken tires: 225/40zr18 up front and 255/35zr18 in the rear. How would I find out what the recommended tire size and offset is for the wheels is? And what do you mean when you say that the amg fenders come 'rolled' from the factory? There is still a very slight vibration and the dents didn't seem very big. I was thinking about taking the wheels to see how much Kwicksilver would charge to fix them, anyone had any experience with getting wheels repaired? The amg wheels all have some serious rash and I know they could be reconditioned. I guess I'm just trying to decide which wheels I want to spend some cash on to get them nice again. I don't know how much it would cost to get the dents fixed in the aftermarkets but I doubt it would be more than getting the factory wheels fixed up.

The dents in the monoblock wheels don't seem bad at all, I have nothing to compare them to, but I think the dings could easily be repaired. I've never driven with a low profile setup before but after balancing the vibration is a lot less noticeable. Has anyone had experience with getting wheels repaired? I'll probably see if I can get a quote next week (I have no idea what to expect) but maybe I'd be better off just replacing the two wheels when I can afford to. What should I do?
