Removing Window Tint??

First of all, thanks to all those who take the time to read this and/or reply.

A little background first. I have a 2000 CLK 430 that came with the blueish window tint (not sure if it was an option/upgrade but not all 430's ive seen have it). Anywho, I really liked this blueish tint and debated heavily as to whether or not to apply aftermarket dark tint.

4-5 months ago I went to a shop and got all my windows tinted 20% (i knew this was "too dark" in california but i got it anyway). Yesterday a cop pulled me over for having the driver/passenger windows tinted. According to the cop, they cant be tinted AT ALL!

Whatever - i dont mind getting the dark tints removed so long as my original BLUEISH color remains. Does anyone know if the blueish color is a window film, or if the glass is stained?

Also, if anyone knows of a quality place to get tints removed? I dont want to risk damaging my defroster lines or blueish color.

Thanks to all.

my tints on my 99clk were kinda nasty and they had a lot of lines and were kind of purple in the front it was especially noticable....i got those removed and put 20% in front and 5% in back...when i got them taken off the glass was not tempered at all...it was as clear as front windshield so i dont know...why dont u just take off the front ones and leave on the back ones? im in los angeles and got a ticket for my taillight tints, but not my front tints..just rollem down when u see a cop =) it was a hassle at the beggining, but u get used to it...i kno i will eventually get pulled over, but until then...it will remain lookin good...

The blueish color is the glass it self. You won't come off when you remove your tint.

Try this one, maybe you can call them to get a quote first.

They are great, my friends and I went there before. (they have cash discount)

By the way, did the COP pull u over only because of the tint windows? I know I will have the same situation one day because my driver and passenger side windows are very dark when I bought my Clk 320.

Good luck.

Yea, CLK430's from 2000-2003 came with the blue tinted glass (I think it looks awesome and would never put a darker tint over it). Anyways, the glass is colored that way, no film or anything, so Id imagine you can just pull the old tint off and everything would be fine!

u shoudl just leave the the tint on and pay the fine.i live in california aswell and have received 2 tint tickets. you have 2 options, u can remove the tint and pay 10 wich is basically a fix it ticket OR leave the tint on as i did and pay 120 for the infraction.

I thought in CA you can just pay the fine w/o removing the tint?

keepin' em

Im gonna find out what the fine is. if its around $120 like krayzie says, then ill keep them and pay the fine. I would figure the cost of removing them would be around 100 as well anyway. I do miss the bluish look of the glass, but it gets ridiculously hot in the car during the spring/summer.
