Just curious, I have a 1999 CLK430 with 35,500 mi. If I decided to get an extended warranty will I get the same price range or more? My current warranty end this December or 50,000 mi. Anyone?

i'd say that is a fair price. maybe even just a little high for a 3rd party company.

for the same price, you should have opted to get the factory extended warranty when it was still available to you as an option. its also about $2,800 for an extended 7 year or 100,000 miles, but much more hassle-free

so, for those who didn't buy the extended warranty when you picked up the car, if you plan to keep the car, buy the extended warranty before the 1 year anniversary for your car is up.

just my .02¢

That's around the same price they quoted me from an MB dealer. It's a third party providing the extended warranty, but since this particular MB dealer has a special contract or negotiation with them, then using the warranty is less of a hassle (according to the salesman).

There are third party, or external, companies that will provide the warranty except some regulation is barring them from providing the service in California. It seems like the dealerships got together and arranged it so that only the dealerships can sell the warranty. I was told this by warrantygold.com, I believe, and they had a much better price compared to the dealer except it wasn't available in California.

Wink

I am in Irvine, the dealer that quoted me the price was MB of Laguna Niguel, to get it at that price, the car needs to be under 24,000 miles I believe ......

she did mention that many W208 owners are doing the same thing :p

Wasn't there someone who posted a while back about someone in FL at a dealership who was offering the dealer extended warranty for under two grand?

A factory extended warranty can be purchased from anywhere between approx $1,600 to $2,800 depending on what the term is on the warranty.

To extend:
5 year, 100,000 miles = $1,600
6 year, 100,000 miles = $2,200
7 year, 100,000 miles = $2,800

These are the 3 options available, the prices are what I vaguely remember, but not too far off.

even thou all the extended warranties offer 0 deductible, make sure u ask what's covered and what's not before purchasing one,

extended warranty works a little different than factory warranties, for instance, it does not cover consumable items, for example, if the HID bulbs went out, its not covered .....

I will see if i can pick up a contract and see what it says ....

I am only 4 months into my new CLK and have not purchased an extended warranty yet. I assume from these other posts that if I buy from a dealer (within the first year), that I am getting a factory warranty, essentially an extension of my current bumper to bumper 4yr/50K standard deal. Some of you guys talk about extended warranties on older vehicles that have potentially different terms and conditions - I guess these are essentially "private insurance policies" that serve as warranties and the acceptance and terms are likely subject to dealer agreement. Is this accurate?

AMG extended warranty costs more.

Some questions to condider:

1. Is this quote for a "MB extented warranty"?

(only available during first year)

2. Will I be listed on the standard MB database,
which is the standard database used by MB service departments?

3. What happens if I sell or trade-in my car prior to the extended warranty period? or

4. What happens if I sell during the regular warranty period?

5. If sold to private party, does extended warranty transfer to private
party?

6. What is the deductible?

7. What are the exclusions?

Check with your MB service dept. if they do work with the outside vendor. In most cases, if it is not an MB warranty, you pay and collect from your insurance co.

Good Luck!!

Yes, your interpretation is correct. Your warranty will basically be extended once the original warranty expires whether it be at the 4 year mark or 50,000 miles.

take note that a few warranty items will not be extended. Instances of that are like the alignment, brake adjustment, etc... check your warranty manual. These items are only warrantied up to 12,000 miles, and no extension is given on these.

Basically, anything that is covered at the end of your 4 year/50,000 mile warranty will be extended. and it will be a factory warranty, not private or 3rd party.

I was able to get the MB 7 Year / 100,000 Mile Warranty for $1,800. A while ago, there was a post naming a women, at a MB dealership, who was selling the warranty for $18,000. I went to my salesman, and told him the price. He said he would match the price.

There are two levels of warranty. I got the one with the fuller coverage.

I am looking forward to losing money on the warranty.

Mike,

Was that Lisa from Courtesy motors? I think she's in FL. I thought I read a while back about her and that she was selling factory extended warranties for $1800ish. My dealer wants $2800.

If she's the real thing, I'll buy it from her. Does anyone have any dealings with her?

Talking

I just signed up thru my Credit Union. Now have 7 yr. / 75k miles at $0 deductable, 4year / 48k from today, but I still have 10 months left on MB coverage. Cost me under $1150 + PA sales tax.

It covers everything but maintenance items (battery, brakes, etc.)

The only catch was that I had to be under 25k miles, I'm at 24975 when I signed up.

It's run by CUNI (credit union national insurance??)

The only condition was that the car was to be serviced every 6 mo./6k miles. I told them about FSS service interval of ~10k, and they issued me a letter stating that MB's schedule would apply!

Lisa is first class!!

She is in California and I am in Florida. I am getting the extended premium MB warranty through her and saving: 1k!!

It must be executed within the FIRST year of MB car ownership.

I called him up and he quoted a price $1000 over what he gave you and I have a newer car and less miles. 2000 CLK 320 with 43k. If his price is similar to the dealer, then I might as well go with the dealer and their third party company. Right now, I'm not too worried and just shopping around.

It's the premium MB extended and will be listed on the MB database.

E-mail Lisa all of YOUR questions, -- I gave you a list of 7 in this thread above.

Make sure, that you do NOT pass the first 12 months. After that, NO MB extented, only other vendors with potential hassle: You pay for repair and collect from your vendor X.

GOOD LUCK!!
