Question Whats your mp3 solution for w208?

So most of us probably have an ipod or other form of mp3 player, what do you guys use to integrate this to your current stock or custom system?

I've tried cassette adapters, fm transmitters and they both suck.

I found this online and seemed noteworthy...

http://frontiernet.net/~dbipes/SLK/m...pter/index.htm

Any thoughts?

This product has only been tested to work 1998 and 1999 CLKs. I verified it will not work on my 2001 CLK. Another solution beside replacing the headunit would be great. I do not have Nav either so no aux plug in my glove box.

Getting a new head unit is the easiest, but most expensive. An FM transmitter does decently, and has good quality if you get the right one. The cassette converter works too.... frustrating though, I understand. I think you can also pull out the Head Unit, and there might be an aux plug in back.

A cassette adapter won't work in mine. If the door isn't closed, the head unit make annoying beeps and then shuts down.

This is an MP3 player that's shaped exactly like a cassette. It's called a Duo Digisette. When the headphones are unplugged I can put mine in the head unit just like a cassette. It has no extra wires to keep the door open. They have an internal rechargeable battery, and the memory cards cost about 8 dollars. They're no longer manufactured, but you can usually find them on ebay.

Alpine cd with Ipod adapter. Mine integrates so well into the dash (ipod jack in the center console) that people have said they thought it was the stock radio until they seen the alpine symbol.

I bit the bullet and purchased one a while back from formymercedes, when they didn't have the warning, just to see if it would work...

I can confirm that it doesn't work on a 2002 CLK either and let them know.

go aftermarket....

Bipes auto can re-wire your stock MBZ unit to feed an AUX In, but its offers no charger and requires the shutdown of the stereo for the AUX input to work.

I have an eclipse double din.

the interface can control the ipod, the ipod charges aswell..

I stuff the ipod inside the center console and hide it.
aftermarket, In my opinion, is the ONLY way to go.

MP3 audio quality is low-end quality sounds, and to force the sound through an FM modulator to make it sound even more horrible makes NO SENSE to me.

I have an iPod kit from Dice Electronics. Replaces the trunk CD changer and works perfectly with the steering wheel controls. http://www.diceelectronics.com/Merch...Code=DICE_IPOD
You need to call them - kit is not available on their site. Good luck.

Will this work with the steering wheel controls and is it a direct plug-in or are there adapters and cables to buy and/or splice? I don't mind doing the deed, I'd just rather know ahead of time.

i had same problem, bought a dension unit which hooks up to your head unit...took exactly 5 minutes to connect. Also has a by-switch so that you can go back and forth from your cd player to your ipod player. It can be controlled by your steering wheel...also, if you have groups on your ipod, your head unit cd controls (1 thru 6) controls your groups as well. Only problem you will encounter is where to put the ipod---in your glove compartment, center console, etc.., But have had it for three months now and awesome sound and so forth.....I have a 2001 430 clk cabriolet...

This is always a option.>>>>>>

http://www.kenwoodusa.com/Dealers/Us1/flyers/Kenwood_Car_Entertainment_2007.pdf

If you take the time to read about it in the flyer and see how everything works, its pretty simply and advanced. It will also work with your controls on your steering wheel. Good luck!

New 2007 multimedia models such as the DNX7100, DDX7019 and KVT-719DVD feature one
USB port for connection to portable USB mass-storage players/USB thumb drives and audio
control of MP3 players. A single or multi-slot card reader*1 can also be connected to the USB
port, allowing your music to be put neatly into different multi-memory cards*2. The connected
USB device is rechargeable as its battery will be recharged while it is connected to the port.

Is there any cheaper solution for mp3s because i'm still a student and i'm really poor lol. I wonder if there was just a headfone jack that connected to the auxillary in the 99 320s so i could plug in my ipod?

Good choice -- I have this in my '99 CLK 320. Installed it about 2 months ago, and works fine. If you order from Crutchfield, tell them that you have a 99 VW Golf, new body style. That will get you the VW harness, which for my car was wired perfectly except the constant 12v and the ignition 12v wires need to be reversed. It also gets you the antenna adapter. My FM reception stinks with this radio, but I ordered the XM interface and the iPod cable. I now have all of the "modern conveniences" in my 8 year old car.

You also should order the Scosche factory amp interface, which will help you set the levels properly to drive the factory BOSE amp. The model number is SLC4, and it is $19.99.

I posted more info in this thread over in the audio forums (although the thread was started about an E-class, I have a CLK320).
