thinking of buying a clk430
Hi I am new here and I am looking at buying a 1999 clk 430 with the amg package, second owner car and it has its service work documents but they are by a local indy mechanic and not the dealer. the car is in beautiful condition and only has 42000 miles on it. I negotiated him to 15,000, do you think its a good price? also this will be my Dailey driver for a while, it will not be driven in the snow my wife has a mdx. Are these reliable cars for me to drive every day? I meam power train wise. I know that most German cars have some electrical issues. Thanks for the help and your time...

2- $15k @ 42k is a reasonable price for a clean car.
3- solid car, just 02 sensors and maf's to replace when they go bad. (and brake switches) The drive train is solid.
I have a 2002 clk 430 cab with about 50000 on the clock and I've had A TON of drivetrain problems. Luckily everything has been covered under warrenty. However once that ends, I'll be getting a new summer car.
That being said, as far as driving it's one of the best cars I've had. I've driven 911s, vettes, mustangs, SSs, but the CLK is my favorite. If it wasn't for some of the quality problems it would be perfect.
I don't know if this helps or not, but even though my car has spent some time in at the dealer, I most likely am going to buy a CLK63 cab next year.
Good luck and enjoy the car.

They have most of the cosmetic exterior stuff.
The CLK430 has no AMG performance parts whatsoever (not even "mildly tuned" AMG suspension lol)
BTW, any 55 owners looking to clear some space?

You can kid yourself all you want MERCEDES FEEKING BENZ said they used a mildy tuned AMG suspension so go argue with the factory.
Go DRIVE one, then you'll understand.Back on topic....ksavage523, just have a thorough PPI done. The price is decent with the miles if it checks out okay. Best of luck in your search.

Now the driving....the best I've been in and driven yet. Its so smooth. The handling, not to bad for rear wheel drive, nothing compares to my Audi TT I had before the 430, that was like a go cart. And I know it doesn't compare to the clk55 but I love the torque and speed this car gets.
So as others have said, if everything is straight for that low of price...I would definitely jump on that car before someone else does.
Seems really cheap for such a low mileage car. Def. take it to the mechanic before you buy it.
My CLK430 was bought Mid. Jan. 2005 with 56k miles for almost $27k with all taxes/registration, etc... A month later we had to replace the catalyic converters, then a year in a half later the camshaft position sensor.
Of course the passenger seat stopped moving forwards and backwards, but its like a natural problem with these clk's. Just recently fixed my passenger seat & a leak in the a/c system.
Regular maintenance was done too; tires, brakes, rotors, windshield wiper, etc...
Now I'm due for Service B.
Not too bad for 2.5 yrs.

damn...42k miles and negotiated down to 15G?....thats near my price range but at 100k miles!!
BUT the car was so well taken care of you can just tell by the way it drives, handles, interior, exterior ect ect. it was like rolling off the dealer lot. No rips, no cracks, no nothing.
