Unhappy am i useless or is my clk faulty?

went to the drag strip this weekend.... ran a 15.2?
surely the car is quicker than this?

i am blaming the track temp of about 4deg celcius... cos i couldnt get any traction off the line?

your comments on my ineptness pls...

never got to run with the esp on cos it started raining

Let me begin by saying that CLK 430's are not designed to drag race, these are gran touring cars. The avg 1/4 mile times and trap speeds are approx. 14.5@99mph. What was your trap speed? Did you brake torque the car on launch as this will greatly enhance launch. Did you shift or let the car shift as I have read full auto works best with brake torqueing. Also temp, humidity and track conditions all play a part and some cars are just faster than others. What year is your car and the mileage? Has it had a hard life, lot's of redline shifts etc? 15.2 is off by quite a bit though and it's important to answer my questions in order to determine if your car is slower than it should be. Also the best way to see if your car is off, see if you can drive a friends, preferably at the track to measure times, or just see if it really feels faster.

leftfoot brake at 1500 rpm...

let the car shift...

got creamed....

the wierd thing was on the way to the track was racing 400bhp evo and 300bhp scooby and was not getting creamed down the motorways?

its like there was no torque low down? trap time was 95?

Question

only other thought is what is the max octane a clk can run on?

was using shell optimax (98) with silkolene pro boost taking it upto 100/101 octane?

was this just too high for the engine management?

is this why my car flew after i filled up on the way home?

Did you make more then one run and 15.2 was the best? It seems that most people get far better results on their CLK's by just stomping on the gas and leaving the ESP on. I know I have. Perhaps your wheels are a little heavier then stock and that could be a problem.....maybe tires are over inflated. My geography is not that good but I assume that your altitude is pretty close to sea level ......maybe just a few hundred feet above. Where I am....my times are well over a second slower then at sea level.

1500 maybe be to low for optimal launch, you'll have to experiment. What about the other questions I asked?

you could drop the pressure in the rear tires much more. 26-28 psi range would probably improve the times slightly, not enough to make up for all the time you lost though...
