I was actually thinking of the factory sizes on 17 inch amg rims but was more worried about brands, Michelin pilots vs yokohama or pirrelis thanks again

For the price, Kumho's have been an excellant tire. I dont drive like a maniac, so I was more concerned with treadwear life than anything...and I believe Kumhos all season are rated around 400.

I am a big fan of toyo tires (as opposed to paying for high end tires like bridgestone and michelin) but I also had toyo tires on my 19 inch rims.
I want to say that General is a growing tire company with very affordable prices also.

if ur concerned about tire noise, you should prob scratch out the pirellis....outa those..it seems like the michelins would b the best choice for you...i hear really good things about the PS2s but theyre pricey...

When you guys say "tire noises" what do you mean by that...you mean while driving like on the freeway? If your hearing the tires like those trucks with the monster tires go by? That kind of noise? Or am I thinking of some other noise?
Anyways, I had some fun times with the Nitto NT555s, suprisingly they lasted a really long time..atleast for me they did they were fun & scary
Now I got on a pair of Falkens 912s, the updated version of the 512s...so far so good...the car seems like it wants to slide into drift mode, I was originally gonna go w/ the Kumhos and try those, the treading looked so unique....drool...

I saw a CLK55 amg yesterday with 275 rear tires and I don't think the fenders were rolled.. So, I am wondering what is the widest (and safest) rear tire I can put on with the 17" amg wheels?

ah, that would explain it.. So, 265's on the rear will not rub on the clk430?
with 19's can you do 265/35 19 in the rear and 235/35/19 in the front? Tirerack suggests 265/30 19 in the rear, but I would like to have a little more sidewall for thos potholes around town.

If your on stock ride height, you should be fine w/ wider tires and the bigger rims, I think 235/19/35 and 265/19/35 sounds about right.
That's only if your on stock ride height though, I dunno about aftermarket springs when your car is lowered, that I think you gotta get the fenders rolled.

I for one like Kumho and Toyo. I have Toyo Proxis on right now. 235/35/19 in the front and 265/30/19 in the rear. Course I have to get new tires this week also and I was thinking about putting 275/30/19 in the rear, too wide????

Did you upgrade the suspension? I have stock ride height on my car and the 265s dont seem to rub at all, it's silky smooth ride, I think since you have 19s, 275s are reasonable and I doubt it'll rub if it does, just get'em rolled, have 275s just put on are sexy enough IMHO

275s make the back end of our cars look way sexy and mean

Nah I haven't upgraded the suspension...yet. The car was lowered a bit already when I bought so I'm not sure if the previous owner did anything to the suspension or not. It doesn't rub in the rear that I notice. Now in the front, oh ya its bad. I need a to fix the camber big time. Not only does it eat the inside of my tires, the outside are eaten up too. sux big time.

Anyways, what happened to your camber? Damn that sucks that your inside tread on the FRONT and the outside are being eaten up, that is definately bad, you might wanna get that checked out like ASAP.
I've always wanted to wrap some 275s on my ride, but I think 265 was a big difference for me, and now I only think what 275s can do!

about the nitto zr 555 tires... I have 18s with those same tires on my clk55... yeah... just scary as hell in the rain... I don't even hit the gas while taking a turn... What would you recommend that has the same performance...but just better?

I keep coming back to Michelin. For the CLK55, I recommend the PS2. I have Energy MXV4 Plus on my 300CE and the '95 E320 Wagon I'm picking up this weekend will be Michelin-shod as well.
Would I consider another brand? Of course....I'm not closed minded, but tires are expensive (I've done a lot of trial/error previously - I figure - why chance it?). Bridgestone is supposed to have a new tire out tho......

Hehe you got taste, now only if you were single...LOL jk

I'm not sure what happened, it may have been from a road by my work that has a horrible hole that I accidentally hit a couple times. It suck bad, but I'm getting new tires this week and I'll fix the alignment and so on.
And I definitely will get 275s unless I hear of some bad experience, but I just love the way it looks. I let ya know how they are when I get em
