CLK Towing question

I am going to move from Georgia to Texas in 2 weeks and I am going to have to tow my CLK with my Navigator.

Question: Can I just tow it with the TOW DOLLY (the one that you just drive your front wheels onto)?

Or do I have to rent the one that I drive the whole car onto? Which is 550 plus taxes and more for insurance for just 2 days use!!

Or does anyone know a cheaper way to get my car from Augusta, GA to Fort Hood, Texas?

Need some help figuring out the cheapest way to do this..THANKS!!

Greg

YUP its PCS time once again. I am just trying to find the most cost effective way to get both vehicles down there.

Don't use a tow dolly, you'll mess up your trans and diff.

Cheapest way is probably to just drive the car there.

1-800-U-Haul

I've done one-way rentals of their auto transport. I drive my car onto the transport, and then pull the transport with a truck. The last one I rented, I picked up just outside of Phoenix, drove 400 miles (or so) into Southern California, and dropped the transport off at another U-Haul store. It wasn't anywhere near $500. IIRC it was under $200.

You might need to let the air out of the tires on the transport to get the car on. Then fill the tires back up to tow. Just a thought.

Trust me, I could put a CLK on one without any trouble. You simply back the car on.

Damn thats a good deal for 200!!!!! I called them and they said that they only do 5 day rentals at a minimum for 500 bucks plus tax and then I would have to buy insurance. This is what I was originally going to do,but not at that high price. Driving both vehicles is my last choice of course, I would rather drive with my family all in one vehicle and let them relax.

I will go into UHAUL again and ask them about this again.

"Flatbed"?

I posted about a "U-Haul auto transport".

There's a big difference. A U-Haul auto transport has a pair of 10 foot long ramps that are used to bring the car up to the trailer height of 20 inches or so. The car only has to rise about 2 inches per foot. Flatbeds are a completely different scenario. A flatbed is a truck and the car has to get at least twice as high in less room.
