OPinions On Part Prices For Major Service
So I'm in the process of buying maintenance parts for my car that has 134,000 miles now and I wanted to see if these prices I have shopped for sound good.
These are the parts:
Engine Mounts = $112.88 + $11.14 shipping
Tranny Kit = $17.95 + $10 shipping
Tranny Mount = $17 = $8 shipping
Bosch Platinum Plugs = $40 = $25 shipping
Spark Plug Cables = $130 + $5 shipping
Motor oil and tranny oil ???
Labor = $300
So far the total is = $676.97
Does this sound like a good sub-total so far? The tranny and motor oil are a mystery right now but I know that it will be quite expensive.

Sam,
Those prices for the parts looks pretty good. That 300 labor, is that the charge to do everything? If it is, then you got it made. I just had trans fluid flashed on my clk and ml to the stealership two wks ago and costs me 866 big ones.

I was assuming that the prices were good but I just wanted some opinions. The guy doing the labor is a well respected Mercedes tech that works at a dealer but does side jobs. He's a friend of droptop208. He's a nice guy with a lot of knowledge and talent. He is the guy that would be doing an engine swap for me if I ever decide to do one or if my engine blows..

Oil shouldn't be no more than 60 bucks with Mobile 1 0-40w and OEM filter, as for the trans I got a quote of 250-300 to get it flushed with all OEM spec fluids and filter, not sure how much your mechanic will charge but you should work a deal with him and maybe it'll be even cheaper?
As for the spark plugs I went with NGK iridiums as a lot of other members recommended those as well which ran about 90...other than that everything else looks good that you have listed.
Have you already replaced the fuel filter, cabin filter, and air filter? Just a thought since you doing some maintenance work. Those are the easy things to do anyways..

All those filters have been changed with the A and B services not so long ago. But it wouldn't hurt to do it again. The air filter was done about 5 months ago.

That seems about right bro, usually Service A and B..they don't really change your filters (not the oil filters) but your filters in the car, cabin and air filter, they don't do that anymore. But it's a super easy DIY.
You can also get all of that w/o the shipping cost too Sam, don't gotta order online for most of that what you needed. Let me know how it goes or if you need help too.

make sure he flushes the tranny instead of a drain and fill. when i had mine flushed, my tech used 16 quarts of synthetic tranny fluid which is about 200 in fluid.
also, engine mounts, make sure they are the MB OEM product, and not the ones produced by BOGE, i've heard of the BOGE getting ripped apart prematurely.
oil should cost you about 60 dollars and 15 bucks for a fleece filter.
i also recommend doing the fuel filter, buy it online for 35 bucks, save a little bit on gas mileage.

I did everything you said and then some because i bought more parts after this old thread. The only thing I didn't change was the cabin filter which I am going to buy this week. I'm also going to replace the steering dampener.

clk fan, have you decided if you're going with charcoal activated? i'm not sure of the difference other than that charcoal activated filter better, but does that mean non-charcoals allow more cold air?

The filter was dirty, but not clogged. The only difference I noticed was a fresh carbon filter always smells a little better than the old one.

I got all my work done independently at Heyvon with Serg in Westminster, CA.
He's honest and will not charge you an arm and a leg. He was an MB tech for a while and now he's gone solo. He also does performance tuning which is his nitch.
