HPS Supercharger

Ok, so I will most likely be picking up an HPS Supercharger Gen2 this week. I was wondering, any other 430 owners on here with the HPS Gen2? If so have you tested the 0-60, 1/4th mile, etc...? Is it worth it?

I am a little stuck, I love my car so I'm 90% sure I will get the HPS system this week. My other option is getting a 2003 CL600 (bi-turbo v12). I'm just really wondering what the 0-60 time is on an HPS Gen2 kit on the 430 before I throw a bunch of money into it. When I could just go pickup a car thats already pretty fukin fast stock.

Thanks in advance guys.

The main thing that scares me about the CL600 is I have been on their forums and most of them don't recommend them, say they are a pain and $$$ on upkeep. The gas mileage is also allot worse. Weighs a bit more. Thats why I still prefer to get the supercharger for my CLK. I just have no clue what I can expect 0-60 with my CLK+Supercharger. If its not even comparable to the CL then I will have to opt for that.

Not to mention I think the w208 is the best looking benz to date :-) CL is close though. Not the biggest fan of their tail lights though.

Like I said im still torn :-) Anyone know the 0-60 of a 430 with hps?

It's funny this thread popped up. I almost purchased a CL55 but ran across the CLK I recently purchased. I bought the CLK b/c it was in mint condition & I'm a sucker for clean cars. Not to mention that it also saved me over $20k but the CLK has such a classy look to it. But the CL's are killer too... heck, either way you can't go wrong.

I'd HIGHLY recommend going with a CL55 rather than the blower for your clk. If you didn't drive the CL55 - give it a shot. I didn't like the CL600 nearly as much as the supercharged CL55.

Just my two cents - best of luck either way!

Cheers,

Lance

I’ve driven a CLK500 with an HPS supercharger at the Streets of Willow (the small track at Willow Springs Raceway). If yours runs like the CLK I drove, you won’t be disappointed with the supercharger. Power delivery was smooth, and off-on boost transition was like a factory car. Nope, you won’t be disappointed . . . . . . . as long as you never, ever, go for a ride in a CL600. Ever. I’ve been on the big track at Willow in an S65. There’s a difference between the S65 and the S600, and there’s a big difference between the 600 and a boosted V8. Boost or not, the 8's can’t be compared to the bi-turbo 12’s. Those twelves pull like sportbikes – they pull till redline, shift, and then they pull till redline again. They never stop pulling. I'm not kidding. The 12 is industrial strength fast.

Depend on your boost and the efficient of your system, but you could bring it down (1-1.5 second) so 4.5 - 4.8 is doable. I don't know about the V12 (the 12 already sounds big) but do it if you want to compete with 55 and M3. You will walks stock/light modified 55 and M3 again depending on the boost

Just wondering, but has anyone on here installed their own supercharger?
I am most likely going with the supercharger. Mostly because its really nice NOT having car payments, haha. Maybe I will get a CL600 next year if I get tired of a supercharged CLK. Maybe gas prices will be lower too, haha.

I was wondering if the supercharger install was even possible as a DIY project. As said by HPS "This system comes as a bolted module unit. Referring that the intake manifold is pre-assembled at our facility."

I bought a used one from HPS and completely striped it down and rebuilt the whole kit to my standards and the kit is awesome!!! I believe the reason why everyone hates HPS is because they sell the kit for so cheap everyone thinks they can install it themselves, but in fact have no idea whats going on!! There is more to it then meets the eye!!!!! In my opinion it was the easiest modification I ever did to any car I owned but at the same time it's not a "BOLT ON" upgrade. HPS did an awesome job making the kit!!!!!

By rebuild you mean just replacing what was on there and used to make it new again or you made the other mods to it like making the inlet larger, replaced intercooler, new airbox, or you did other modifications to it? Did you find it necessary to make those mods to it?

Also, is that a huge *** wing on your car in your lil picture?

I took everything apart to check clearences inside the blower and cleaned and coated the moving parts, flowed the injectors, did some machining here and there and now its perfect!! There are certain this I do certain ways, even if parts I buy are new, I still take apart and check.

LOL... the wing is not that big, its the angle I took the pictures at makes it look big. These cars need something on the trunk. Its like a supra without the wing..... look weird.

You need to do a search in this forum b4 going with the HPS 2 kit.

I know 2 guys on this forum with SL500's using that kit and they had to do several major upgrades just to make it work right on the car. The original design is junk!! PM TechTune if you don't believe me.

Once Tech Tune and his partner straightened everything out and improved the kit it worked like a gem! Their cars(SL500's) put out 400+hp to the wheels.

That's what I was thinking..when was someone going to chime in about HPS being awful. Pay the extra money and go with Kleeman..much more reliable, IMO.

Thanks to the help from quite a few HPS users I think they have pointed out what needs changed to work really well. And you are right about it not working AS IS but the updates are only a few grand more. It sucks it wont work out of the box, and needs additional work and additional items to work but from what I hear once the updates/upgrades are made its awesome! And still quite a bit cheaper then anything else.

Thanks NastyCLK and the rest of ya! I have a game plan now, I won't be picking it up for a few weeks, but at least now I know what I need and can do.

Please keep us posted with your new project! I'd love to see the performance - before/after if possible. Please be sure to take a few snaps as well.

Best of luck & enjoy the new toy...
