Question crazy lights on the dash

hey guys,
i took my car to mb dealer to replace the catalatic converter under warrenty today. no work was doen on the car since it wasnt covered but when i picked up the car i noticed the "battery/ alternator" light came on then almost every other light and when that happened i couldnt change gears flashers and some equipment in the car didnt work including hazard light.

any takers on this one?

i know our cars got an issue with the brake switch which can trigger all those lights on the dash and this was kinda like that but a few more things and the car not changing gear was shocking.

Was the battery disconnected at the dealer? I know that the brake light switch will cause alot, but not sure about all the others. I would def replace that sucker tho and see...

i know they didnt disconnect the battery for sure since they would have asked me how to unbolt the subwoofer box. they did connect it to there reader though not sure why something like that would cause gears not changing and dash bottons not working!

i had the brake light switch act up twice before but it didnt change the cars driving.

a little update this morning. when the engine revs up the dash lights get brighter and then all those lights come on. when i get to a light the lights go off and car operates the way it should.

is this some sort of solenoid or voltage regulator that got messed up, and what could the dealer do to cause this?

i'm going to tell them but you know how they are, deny everything.

This sounds like a low battery issue. The car will start to act erratically and give you lots of errors. I suggest that you use a battery charger and charge it up overnight or take it out and have Autozone do a complete charge and battery test for free. I can almost guarantee you that this will end up being your problem.

If you do remove the battery please read up on resetting all the switches so you dont end up have other problems after the replacement.

thanks for the input fellaz,
i checked it out with the volt meter and the car was hitting 17v at revs and back down to 14 at idle. ended up being voltage regulator attached to the back of the alternator. 80 bucks candian.
you can replace this w/o taking out the alteranor from underneath the car. 30min fix. i took a few pictures so if anyones interested.

i knew it wouldnt be the battery since it was replaced a few months ago. and the voltage never dropped under 14 at idle. this also happened on my yamaha a couple of years back.

Damn good troubleshooting!!...I am never without a voltmeter so I should have suggested that as well.
