What can I do...?

Just got back from picking up my car from the service department and thay had to fix two things:
1. fuel gauge - reading Empty all the time
2. Replace dash board due to crack near air bag.

Well.... as soon as I got to the car I noticed someone backed into my car and created 2 medium size scratches and about 12" of minor scratches on the rear bumper! I am pissed off!

After telling the service manager, he told me he would check the survalance tapes to see if anything happened. He said he would get back in touch with me by the end of the week... but I have a feeling that they are going to tell me tough luck.

Then I noticed the gas gauge is not working! AARGH!

The dealership is 90 min. away.

What should/can i do?

Russ

Holy crap... that doesn't look good. Well, most respectable dealership won't jack you like that, but, I wouldn't be surprised if they do stoop that low.

Well, complain to your advisor, then to the service manager, then to MBUSA... don't let off, and keep harassing them. good luck!

Wow........it's going to be tough to take it back for them to fix it. You should of check the parameter of the car before you drove it out of the dealer. Now they going to say, "we didn't see this before you drove it out." It's your words against there. so.
Before I drive my car out of the dealer from a maintenance check-up I ALWAYS....don't know how many time I stressed this to everyone, ALWAYS check my merchandise before I take my care home.

Persevere

Never give up if you know you are right. Start with the service manager, and take it to the next level until you get to the dealer principal, and if that doesn't work, make an appointment to see the MB regional rep. I doubt the dealership would want MB to know about this, so I'm hoping for your sake that it doesn't go that far. Good luck.

What dealership in NC?

Russdog,

If the dealer gives you a hard time, please advise..because word of mouth goes a long way and if I lived in your area, I would definately avoid the dealership if they treat their customers like that.

Hopefully, the dealership should make all possible fixes to the bumper knowing it's their fault. Else, call up MBUSA. Good luck, man

OUCH!!! Sorry to see that, well go back and tell them that in addition to not fixing your fuel gauge they messed up your car, and just absolutely make them repair that damage to the bumber and re-repair that gauge.

my car...and a friend of mine's car have both been damaged at the stealership (fletcher)....end result...NOTHING. fletcher's people are already pretty snooty to begin with (i think there have been threads about how their service dept is pure garabage), so hopefully you'll have better luck with your dealership. want to know how shady they are? i told them to check the pre-work survey of the car to see if the scratches were on my bumper before...and magically they said they couldn't find it...that it must have gotten lost in the filing process. but anyways, yeah that's one way to go. they take a survey of damage on your car before it goes in; although it is somewhat of a biased survey since half the time they are in a rush and never give you your copy of the survey, and they can just change their copy later.

Talking UPDATE!

Got a phone call from the service manager today...

They told me that I can take it to a local body shop and they would pay for it! Wow!

But then... I then told them about the fuel gauge and they said they would drive a loaner car out to me in NJ (100 miles away) and take my car to get it fixed.

They appologized for the inconvience and were very professional about this! I cannot tell you how excited I am to have taken care of. I will let you know how it works out.

Thanks for all you input. I am going to have the car washed tomorrow and have lots of pics taken for future reference.... just in case.
