Hardwire Ipod to stock headunit?
A friend of mine has a 99 camero and he was able to hardwire his ipod to the back of his head unit by interrupting the cd receiving wire. So he has to have a cd playing, but the ipod is whats picked up by the head unit. Is there any way we can do this in an 01 clk? Is there any way to do it without the cd playing because i dont have the actual changer that holds the cds?

You can install a Dice, a Dension, or a Soundgate. The differences is in features and whether or not they can be controlled by the steering wheel.

I'm using a cassette adapter in the short run. Works good if you don't mind seeing the little wire running out of the cover...ipods in the storage pocket below heat controls.

I've been using the soundgate auxiliary input box for 2 years with my COMAND unit. It takes place of the CD changer fiber port. It fires up every time and inputs CD-quality sound. Paid ~$250. I do recommend.

you do have a tape deck. if you search the forum, theres a way to open up your head unit and solder some AUX wires where the tape signal goes in. this way, you can have an aux wire (which you plug into your mp3 player) every time you hit 'tape' on your head unit.

press the serv button on your command and navigate to aux then select. In the glove box there is a 3.5 jack to plug directly to the command. The preset EQ settings are different from the radio and cd so you will need to re select when in aux mode. All you need is a Male to Male cord and your good ta go!

the connector hole is in the glove box but the plug is underneath the door sil. look for a circle outline on the right of the upper glove box shelf where the CD changer is. you'll need to pry out the glove box covers and foot well and door sil panels to connect the plug. i don't remember the part #... someone posted it in another thread.
this was from someone that drives an 02 c230..im not sure if its the same

I dunno.. maybe it didnt come on the 01's? Should be a simple upgrade for you though. I forget where I saw the thread, but there is one on retrofitting the plug in the glove box. The interface is located in the passenger kick panel area. The write up was very through and included part#'s as well. Do some searching and im sure you will come across the details but should be straight forward since you already have command

Thanks a lot for this post guys!
I have a 2000 CLK 430 and was so excited when I read about the aux in the glove box that I ran outside to check and there it was!
simply awesome!

2000 CLK430 Cabriolet
Regarding: Year 2000, 430 CLK Cabriolet
Need some clarity on
"...retrofitting the plug in the glove box. The interface is located in the passenger kick panel area..."
I do NOT have the Nav system. I have the Bose system with CD changer in the trunk. No interface in the glove box.
Questions:
Is the interface located in the passenger door sil, still there for a NON-Nav system ?
In other words, can I expect to find a cable I can patch to, in the door sil, on a NON-Nav system ?
I'm going to also make this query as a topic.

Am I right in thinking there are 2 types of Nav this car can have? Full Command with the large screen, or Nav built into the smaller head unit? I have Nav, but no Command, ie the smaller unit on my 2001 430. No socket in the glove box though....
