Continental ExtremeContact™ DW
Anyone tried this new tire? I'm at the point where I need to get some new rubber and after reading a few reviews they sound pretty good. Went to Luke and he said the DW would make his updated list of Top 5/6, presumably in the Max Performance Category below. If any of you have reviews I'd love to hear your thoughts! (FYI there is also a new DWS series which I believe are the Multi-seasonal and ont need in Atlanta)

Maximum Performance:
These are great performing tires which offer great steering response and wet/dry traction (not for use inthe snow!!!).

2.)Pilot Sport PS2
3.)Sumitomo HTR Z3
4.)P-Zero
5.)Potenza RE050A Pole Position
6.)SP Sport Maxx

Thats Luke from Tire Racks List actually and was last updated in October. I've run nothing but PS2's and agree they are great tires. I guess, truth be told, I'd like to not spend $200 per 225/45/R17 this go round and thought I'd check the market. The Contis are closer to $125 per and if they are gonna make this list and the reviews are good I might give em a try.

I personally have been through a couple of sets of the Goodyear Eagle F1 all-seasons and love 'em. Not too pricey and are pretty quiet as well.

consider the michelin sport a/s+. they are fair priced, have a 45k mile warranty and ride great. i'm in the tire business, wait till next month and michelin is going to have a rebate promotion, something like $70 back in a visa gift card. use this insider info to your advantage! the conti dw is a new model conti came out with - along with the dws - they look good and have some good traction but they are made with a harder rubber compound so they ride a little rougher compared to the michelins. go with the a/s+, you will be happy.

E55 AMG
I just had the dws installed on my 06 e55 at tire rack last month. originally i had the conti pro contact that i believe these cars come with, in comparison the dws are quieter, give a nice ride but cant compare to the monster grip of the conti pro contact, however the pro contacts have a very short life span in the rear. I dont have the confidence at high speeds with the dws's, "unless im going in a straight line" so there is a trade off

Sorry to butt in on your CLK thread, but I am curious to hear about Conti Extreme DW's. I am thinking about those next when my SportContact 3's wear out.

2004 S55 (SOLD, miss it every day), 2009 GL550
I had the DWS version installed last november, I am VERY pleased and highly recommend them for a daily driver.
They are on my S55 daily driver, and I have about 8K on them. They got me through the east coast winter extremely well. Of course I was not out in 4+" of unplowed snow, but I was very pleased with how i was able to get around in the crap left behind by the plows and in those things that were supposed to be parking lots. Seriously, we had 6 million inches of snow and I was tooling around in an S55 all winter. How cool is that? I even got to practice a little fishtail recovery without attracting the Long Arm.
They do not have and much dry grip as well as the summer tires I had prior (duh?), but they are great in heavy rain, which my summer tires made near-lethal. Rain is the main reason I went with A/S tires and these are awesome for that.
They seem to be getting loud (I have crappy hearing so who knows?) but they are due for a flip (car is staggered, can't rotate, have to flip side-to-side) so I expect that will help with the noise (and tread life).
The DWS has "DWS" embedded in the tread as a wear indicator. As the tire wears, first the S fades, then the W fades, then the D fades and they are nearly warn. When the S has faded they have lost much of their snow traction, etc. I'm hoping to get 15K on the "S", which would have me putting on fresh EXCELLENT all-season tires right before winter.
