Instrument cluster - outside temp./ clock missing leds

I have a 2000 CLK which is having instrument cluster issues. The small displays on the lower right and lower left of the instrument pod are not working properly. The time/ gear select and the outside temperature cluster are missing some leds. The block leds that are out still work on occasion but never all of them at one time. Please let me know if any of you have had this problem and if so what the fix is/was. Thank you in advance.

If you still have the warranty, bring the car back to the dealership. I just had mine replaced (bulbs or leds).

2001 CLK-430 Black
I just had my cluster replaced this week for 3 bad LEDs. I think the part was about 330.00 and 200 to install. All warranty for me :-)

Also Try Steve, I think he has clusters as well: http://www.mbenznl.com

On another note, make sure you tell the moron service manager that your talking about the LED's on the instrument cluster. The first time it was there he had the mechanic replace bulbs in the center console near the shifter. The funny thing is, is that I dont recall any of those being blown out. I hope my local MB Dealer isnt ripping MB Corporate off, since they also replaced about 6k of other stuff during my last two visits. hehee

Cluster cost

Kimber,

Thank you for the price info and your story of Benz service. I'll look into getting my cluster replaced this week.

I bought my car used and I took it back to the stealership with the problem, 3 weeks later they returned the car with the newer model cluster (I have a 99) but it had higher mileage than before and now my car has a TMU title! I was pissed!

CLK 320 Avantgarde
I would like to draw up a list to make Mercedes, acknowledge there is an issue, as they are saying it is the first they have heard of this problem with the cluster.

I would appreciate people who have had this problem to just mention their dealer name (if possible) so they can speak to them.

All in all this will help everyone as I believe this is becoming a comman issue, it is just a matter of time for those that don't have it.

Thanks

What is a TMU title?

I have the same issue with my 2000 CLK, where some LEDs on the temp display don't display.

My car is under warranty and the dealer said he would replace the entire cluster (tach, speed, everything).

They said they have to program the mileage into the new cluster, so maybe your dealer entered the wrong mileage. Just tell them, maybe they can fix it for you.

TMU title means True Mileage Unknown Title. I bought the car used from a used car dealer and i'm 100% sure they don't know how to program the mileage so I'm screwed. Does anyone know if you have to get your computer reset if one of the malfunctions is triggered in order to get the malfunction to go away even if the problem has already been fixed? Or does it mean that the problem is still there.

Thank you for the clarification. So when you start the car, a message pops up under the mileage or something?

No, there is no way of finding out unless you go to the DMV.

Wow...old thread reborn....search on both forums...you don't need to buy a new cluster...it can be repaired. I had mine done by http://www.bba-reman.com/catalogue/P...x?category=598 years ago and it's still working fine. Contact them about latest price...was around $150.
Your forum search will tell you how to remove cluster.
Very easy DIY...remove...send it...within a week it's back...reconnect the 2 wire bundles and it's fixed.
