Clk 550

So does anyone know any information about when or even if the 550 is coming to the CLK?

CLK 500 Convertible
The 5.5 engine 388 Ps is already being sold in Germany. It's still called a Clk 500 though. Should be available soon in the rest of the world.

I called up 2 local Mercedes dealers already this week and none of them had any information on the CLK550 at all. They said info will probably be released in about 2 months.

I really want to break my current lease and get into a CLK550. I've heard that the Lorinser S550 has 425hp from just a chip and exhaust. I would love to have that same 425 in a CLK.

North America wont have 550 engine in Clk w209s due to regulations.

If that is true, then it is a real bummer. What regulations are being cited as the reason to deny the car to the North American market?

That isn't true at least not for America, but I can't see why Canada wouldn't get the CLK550 either. Maybe they're still going to call it the "CLK500" up there, but it will have the 5.5L V8, not the old 5L V8. What regulations could possibly prevent the CLK from getting a V8 that simply fits in with very little alteration? Beside that the SL,S,CL,E, and CLS all get the 5.5L V8 for 2007.

MBUSA has already announced that the CLK550 is coming for the 2007 model year:

http://emercedesbenz.com/May06/26_MB...formation.html

CLK-Class Coupe and Cabriolet:

* High-performance CLK63 AMG Cabriolet (475 hp, 465 lb.-ft.) replaces the 362-hp CLK55 AMG
* CLK550 (382 hp, 391 lb.-ft.) replaces the 302-hp CLK500, joins the CLK350
* All-new Sports Appearance Package for CLK350

The only models that keep the old 5L SOHC V8 are the ML500, R500 and G500, now why that is I have no idea.

The CLK550 Coupe and Cabriolet are up on MBUSA, no prices yet though, just specs. The CLS550, CLS63 and CLK63 Cabrio are also up.

CLK 550 sounds awesome. Unfortunally it is probably faster than my CLK55. I'm sure the 550 engine and the 7 speed will add to the MSRP. I'm looking foward to the performance specs

How come MBUSA says the 0-60 for the CLK550 is...5.1 seconds?

I would have expected sub 5.

My best guess is that it shift 3rd before 60mph that will slow 0-60 times but will be faster in the 1/4 mile. I guess that is what happens to 7-speed cars . If the HP # are correct it is faster than my car.

Didn't the 06 CLK500 have a rear axle ratio of 2:82 or 3:06?

The 07 CLK550 has 2:65 which will reduce the 0-60 time but improve top end and at higher speeds the engine should run less revs.

The U.S. will not get the AMG CLK coupe, AGAIN. My guess is that it would outperform many of the higher priced models E, CLS, etc.

Heck even the CLK63 Cab which weighs in at almost 4000 lbs went from a 5.4 to 60 car to a 4.5 to 60 (for 07). If they offered the coupe it probably would do 0-60 in 4.2 or 4.3.

Yeah, I know they werent going to offer it, but I didn't know the cab was that fast. Now I'm even more frustrated. Good job MBUSA

The base MSRP of the model year 2007 CLK550 Coupe is $54,900 and the base MSRP of the CLK550 Cabriolet is $62,900. I got this information from Consumer Promotions, Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC.

CLK550's are shipping

The CLK550's are shipping. I don't know if some have already arrived, but a batch is on the boat for delivery end of July. I just placed an order today but the options I want aren't on the boat, so mine won't come until late September. While I was at the dealer, I saw one guy pick up his brand new SL550. There weren't any 550's on the floor because they are selling them as fast as they come in.

A quick walkaround today reveals that the local dealer here has no 07' CLS, CLK or E's at least not on the lot. He has plenty of 06 CLS, E, and a few CLK500 Cabrios. There are a few 06' S65s and SL500s around too. There are some 07 SL550s, SL55s and pleny of GL450s and S550s though.

it's a way to keep the CLK55 owners happy, so they don't feel bad for paying more money for less power, especially for those that just recently picked up the 2005 or 2006 CLK55s.

Car and Driver have already tested the SL550 and it ran 4.9sec 0-60 with the same engine and transmission while weight in at more than 4000lbs. If you think the CLK550 is gonna do anything less...think again.

Very true. It is amazing that in one year all of the previous "55" cars have been outpowered, especially the naturally aspirated ones, by a CLK no less!

I think the 07' "550" cars are real bargains for a Mercedes. I mean we're talking 1993 600SEL hp (well close enough to the 389hp that model had then) here across nearly the entire range of V8 cars! Now the CLK63 has more hp than the outgoing E55? That is mind-boggling to me.
