how many quarts of oil go into clk500? Exact number please and oil extractor question

need to buy an extractor but need to know how big the capacity needs to be.

Found one that's 7.3 liters and dont know if that's gonna be enough. Does anyone know if the extractors need to be as big as the oil tank? Can i just extract in 2 attempts?

thanks

it's about 8 quarts iirc - I have the big Pela extractor (about $100) and it's big enough to handle two changes without dumping.

with the extractor, can i stop and start again if it's up to capacity without a mess?

I wanna buy a 7.3 liter extractor and not dish out the extra money for an 9 liter if i can help it.

so can the oil change be done in 2 takes, dumping oil out and starting again?

thanks

I really don't see any reason what you couldn' t do that. All you would have to do is rebuild the pressure and extract again after you empty out the container.

Yeah there's no reason you couldn't pump it out in multiple steps if you had to use an extractor with a small reservoir. Obviously you wouldn't want to drive the car anywhere...

You pump the oil out through the dipstick tube, which is located on the passenger side between the engine block and the firewall. There is no actual dipstick because of the electronic oil sensor so the tube is just capped off. The oil filter is located right at the front of the engine block adjacent to the grill - a $2 oil filter wrench from any auto supply place will get it off, and then you just need to pop off the filter and a couple o-rings and make sure that you get the new filter seated properly.

IIRC, the oil is 0W-40 Mobil 1 synthetic but I'd have to look because I don't honestly remember which viscosity it is 100%.

Reseting the service interval timer is easy - from the driver's seat navigate to the screen where it displays the service timer and then press and hold in the odometer /trip reset knob to the left of the steering wheel. After 3 secs or so, it'll display a message asking for you to confirm that you want to reset it and you press another button and it resets.

how do you check oil level to make sure it's not too high or too low?

8.5 liters I believe. They told me to bring 9 liters when I went for oil change, but they said they didn't quite use it all.

Also, my dealership told me to bring 0W-30 Mobil 1 for my 04 CLK 500.

I don't know if that is what all dealerships put in, but that is the one that my New Hampshire (Holloway Mercedes) dealership told me to absolutely use.

Where can I purchase an oil dipstick that will work in my Mercedes 500CLK cabriolet? I realize that you can check the level using the computer but I would rather use a dipstick.

I apologize, it was quite unfair. I hope you see it in good humor, the forums are supposed to be a fun place. In conclusion the M113 takes way too much expensive oil.

Agreed. Just some guys having fun. No harm meant. Does the 500 really just take just 7 liters though?! My 320 gobles down on 8 L with the filter..
