I realistically get about 16 to 18 mpg of mostly city driving (short trips.) Don't forget to factor in the premium gas, too. I fill it at 1/2 tank and pay around $40. Yesterday here in NJ the BP (Ultimate) was $4.099 per gallon: not too shabby.

No, empty it's $60-65. I guess when it says 1/2 tank it's really less. NJ prices are very good - low taxes I guess. Plus we're not even allowed to pump our own gas! That seems like it should make the gas more expensive...

My CLK500 is overall averaging 21.9 since last reset... I can get as much as 32 highway ( driving down a long mountain pass), 18.5 city as long as I'm not "on it " too much, and 19 driving back up the pass ( against gravity)...
My commute is 100 miles a day so I fill up every 3rd day to the tune of about $50/fillup... If I acclerate hard and drive hard on the mountain passes, I go through gas faster than I can pour it on the ground...

I have a 6 mile commute to and from work in Northern Virginia. I regularly avg. 20 MPG if I'm careful not to accelerate hard. That's pretty darn good for a V-8 IMO.

If I drive more agressively, I avg. more like 17 MPG.

On the highway, driving between VA and PA, I regularly avg. 25-26 MPG, going around 70 MPH most of the way.

It's all about how heavy your foot is.

Did you say "new york" and "city" and "driving"???? Isn't fuel economy based on actually moving?

Although I live in so cal, I'm back in manhattan this week. At about 40th, I made the mistake of thinking I could go up 8th. Traffic is so bad on 8th, I got out of my car, grabbed a slice, came back, and didn't even hold up the guy behind me. In fact, he didn't even honk. When I got out he said, "YO! Grab me a slice too!"

Forget the gas mileage. Whatever you buy will use gas. Buy a car that inspires you. If not, you may be that guy sitting in bumper to bumper, in a car they don't like, getting great fuel economy, and wishing they were in something else.

I average $70-$80 CDN a fillup. I average about 10-11 L/100K with 70/30 (highway/city) driving.

Man, you must be in some awful traffic to get 10 mpg.

I can drive from my home in Northern VA to my parents in Western PA and BACK, and there's still gas left in the tank. The trip is about 150 miles each way.

I think the gas tanks on the 500 are 16.4 gallons.

If you drive in a lot of stop and go traffic or have a lead foot, the mileage can be pretty bad. Otherwise, I think it's quite good for 300+ HP.

My 2004 clk500 has a 15.4 gallon tank and when i purchased it with stock amg wheels it got 18-20mpg driving car normal about 12 driving it hard. with upgrades and 20" rims it averages about 15-16mpg and about 8-10mpg when driving it hard. it still is pretty decent gas mileage considering it is a V8 and just over 300hp.

I was curious about what my actual highway milage was, on my way home from work the other day. I hit reset once I was at 70mph, until I git to my off ramp. Here are the results:

Drive Time: 13 minutes
Distance: 15 Miles
AVG Speed: 66mph
25.9 Miles Per Gallon
