Question 18" Wheels on a CLK320 dont fit! Please help

Hi guys,

This is my very first post, and I am hoping some of you can help me out. I own a 2004 CLK320 and just picked up a nice set of 18" AMG rims and Pirelli P Zero tires. I was almost certain that they would fit on my car but my mechanic said they are too big and wont fit. Please help, did I buy the wrong size rims? how can I make this work? Here are the specs:

Rims:
Front: 18" x 8.5"
Rear: 18" x 9.5"
5 x 112 bolt patern
30mm offset

Tires:
Pirelli P-zero tires
Front: P235/40ZR18
Rear: P255/35ZR18

Thanks so much guys. I look forward to your response.

What exactly did the Mechanic say? I am no expert on the wheels but the specs you gave seems okay to me?

The mechanic said that the wheels were touching the shock and there wasn't much space between them and the fender. As far as I know my car was never lowered so not sure why this is the case. I am going to try to take it to the Mercedes dealer tomorrow and have them take a look.

I already tired searching. I would have thought someone with 11,000+ posts like you would have a more knowledgeable answer for me, that's why I joined the forum.

Does anyone else know what could be the problem? Is it the offset?

Sounds like it could be the offset that's causing the issue.

I always thought they gave the fronts an offset of 35?

Or maybe the mechanic is just playing it safe.

I have 19" rims, 8.5" wide at the front with a 35 offset.

I don't have any problems and I reckon I still have alittle more room to play with.

Guys i got some bad news... I took the rims to the dealer this morning and they said the wheels are too big for the car? What are the specs on the rims for those of you who got 18" wheels on your cars? By the way the offset for the front is 35mm i just double checked. Also I went to another shop and they told me the 235 tires in the front are too big i need 225's.

What is going on??? Is anyone in the Boston area that can recommend a mechanic that knows how to make this work? I would understand if I had the wrong size wheels/tires but so far it seems like I have the right sizes and they should fit on my car.

At stock monster truck 4x4 height, by those specs it seems like your wheels should be fine. I really don't know how the shoulder of your tires are, but there should be plenty of room. In the worst case, you can probably get some spacers to lower the offset and push the wheels toward the fender. I really can't imagine these wheels not fitting if your car hasn't been lowered.

What is it about them that does not fit? Do they rub the wheel well or the struts/shocks? Do the bolts not align? Are they rubbing the brake calipers? Are they a staggered wheel set? What size are the wheels and tires? Did the company you purchased them from say they would fit?
