Brandnew Pipes

Ok just got home from the muffler shop...man this job looks easy but when u do its fking nightmare .I went there like 2pm but when I got back home its like 7:30 pm. Anyway, this is what I did : 2 straight pipes running from the primary cats go straight to the tips without anything in between ( no 2nd cats, resonator, muffler ..nothing ) . The pipe that im using is the same size as our stock one (not sure how big). Alrite, I guess all these pics below will answer all your questions right ? if not just ask . I already know you guys gona ask for the sounds...it similar to this car,

Andy, are you getting any drone from this set up? I'm sure it sounds great and meaty but I'm wondering about a constant drone at highways speeds?

Thanks for sharing all the pics!

Ah you beat me to it!!! I'm planning to do the same thing on my CLK550, but I'm a little worried about the drone. What type of tips are those and where did you get them? How much did this cost you overall?

Kev, I have the exact same tips (dual round, staggered) and will prolly end up not using them now. If you're not in a rush to get your work done and interested in them I'll send you a pic when they get here and have a friend bring them back to the US for you.

Drone ? Will get back to u on that . Now for the tips , I picked them up at his shop ..not sure the brand or the sizes of those tips but I DO like the tips lol. The whole setup cost me $300 and that's it. For the 5hrs labor not bad for the price right ...

@Kevwood, I don't think I necessarily like those tips, so I think I'll pass, but thanks for the offer. i prefer an oval-shaped tip for an oem look, as opposed to a purely round tip.

I've been thinking of picking up a pair of Magnaflow tips, and just turning them upside down...i HATE the magnaflow logo lol.

i think i want these ones: magnaflow #35169

also, im not sure if i would trust my exhaust shop to cut my bumper for the quad setup,

You don't go to muffler shop to cut ur bumper but the body shop that's what I did.

Oh okay, yeah I'm just worried that it won't come out symmetrical, that would irritate me.

Please do try and get some exhaust videos up so we can hear what a setup like this sounds like. I'm very close to pulling the trigger and doing what you've done.

Also, from the picture, it looks like the tips are a little crooked...on both sides. The tip on the outer side, the side near the wheels, seem to be lower than the ones on the inside. Is it just me?

My body shop is cutting my bumper as we speak. Hopefully I could get the car to the muffler shop this week. Looking forward to see what yours sounds like Andy.

Sorry, I had to fix this. I have to keep opening links when I want to see your pics..

The work looks good, but non muffled "true duals" with no x-pipe, H-pipe, 2 pipe resonator, or any other crossover mixing the banks on a v8 mercedes must sound pretty un-refined. Im thinking it has to sound like a redneck pickup truck.

Any sound bites?

Not unless it is resonated. A straight Steel X will not quiet it, but what it would do it equalize the sound when the banks are firing and make a much more fluid tone.

As-is - "true dual" fashion, you will hear / feel more pulsating.

I Love the look, but I would toss in a resonated x-pipe. Like this.
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MPE-11385/?rtype=10

That will quiet the car a notch, but totally change the sound to be more fitting.

The only mercedes video I could find of it was on a sl600. The 12cyl will not sound like an 8, but for volume purposes... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2dlArJSVr0

Here are all the videos that pop up on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/results?searc...magnaflow&aq=f
