polishing chrome exhaust tips

I was cleaning the tips and they look a bit better now but they still have black gunk on the bottom inside of the tips. is there anyway to get that off or is the chrome gone underneath?

What color is your car?

If its black I say black them out. I like blacked out AMG tips, looks real nice.

my car is silver but even if my car was black I think the black clks with the chrome tips look better. I wouldnt want to ruin them by painting them. Chrome quads shining in the day on any benz are the mark of the beast

I spray P21s TAW directly into tips and then scrub with steel wool and then rinse with alot of water

I hear that a lot.
I suggested blacj because it's something different and it actually looks amazing on a blacj car but I see your point.
Im a little more underground, don't like to draw too much attention with flashiness thus the reason why I didn't purchase a white clk although its my favorite color. I wouldnt be able to get home without being noticed in a white benz so i went for the second best color choice & my goal is to make it to look & sound like the devil so I am in the process of blacjing out errrrrrthang!!

Iv'e done it to several cars with steel wool, elbow grease and a little metal poish to finish them off. It works. The stainless is still there.

CLR is great for removing calcium and other hard water deposits but I have no idea how it would work on tips Be sure to tell us the results if you use it.

As others have mentioned, I also have used steel wool to get stubborn marks off tips.

I think AMG tips are polished stainless steel not chrome. You can use steel wool and buff and polish them all you want.

Hey guys,

For the exterior of the tailpipes, I suggest using a non-scratch scouring pad - one that you'd use in the kitchen. This is to prevent you from putting fine scratches on the polished outside of the tailpipes.

For the insides of the tailpipes, I used a fine grade sand paper to remove all the bonded on crap.

Then I hit the tailpipes with some autosol (polish).

Now I just wipe the tailpipes out after each time I drive the car.

so I took everyones advice and went to the store to get some steel wool. I ended up buying heavy duty scouring pads and shined them up. The clr seemed to help a little but I think the polish I used worked better with the pads. thanks for all the help!

So steel wool, heavy duty scouring pads and CLR? will this scratch it?
