Question Add ipod adapter

I have a clk500 2005 and would like to add facility whereby I can listen to my ipod through the car's system. Cartronics are charging $540 just for the part (don't know how much it will cost to fit it), is there a better/cheaper. Thanks

Ebay iPod Kits

I ordered two of these a few months ago and installed in my '06 C280 and a friend's '05 C230K. Great price, OEM, quick service, very satisfied with Sovereign MB's ebay sales. They have the 05 CLK kit listed currently for $195.

MB Ipod Kits on ebay

DIY install instructions that I used are found here, not sure if it's exactly the same for the CLK, but it's probably close.

DIY instructions

P.S. Kit install takes less than an hour. After doing two of them, I could do it in 30 minutes.

That is the factory kit that only works though the instrument cluster... if you don't mind that. Our kit works through the COMAND and can even allow for bluetooth streaming AND control of programs like Pandora.

Yup, this kit gives track/playlist name in the instrument cluster in the dashboard and full control of the iPod from the steering wheel (I'll post pics if anyone wants to see it in use). Head unit just says "Aux Input Active" while iPod is playing. I figured at 5 years old, I didn't want to invest in anything more than this. If my head unit goes at some point, then I'll spend the money for an aftermarket system with Nav and all the goodies and Cartronics is where I'll be shopping--excellent website and so many options that it makes my head spin!

Just had the Cartronics installed and it works great. I highly recommend it.

Better, no. Cheaper, sure. Search, and you'll find DIY options (including the one I did) in the $50-$60 range. It all comes down to how much head unit/steering wheel control you want. You get what you pay for.

Quick question, does the iPod autoplay? Or I need to press the Play button? Thanks.

NO LONGER ACTIVE
I don't know about the Cartronics interface, but the OEM interface does autoplay anytime the AUX input is selected. That's what I have and my iPod stays untouched in the glove box except to occasionally sync it to iTunes for new music.

Our iTronic Audio interface works in the COMAND and the instrument cluster. It allows you to select Artist, Albums, Genre, Songs, etc. Plus you can run Pandora and other items as well. Quite a bit more than the OEM that just allows you to select one song at a time in the instrument cluster only and no Pandora or similar app.

For the CLK500 (2006) if one installs the factory Integration kit, do you loose the AUX plug in the glove box that I may want to use later on for say plugging in Sirrus Radio? Hopefully the AUX plug stays as is and is usable after doing the kit. Also does anyone know what the actual Factory part number is on the CLK500 Integration Kit? The Sovereign Listings do not give it.

The MB dealer here told me I would lose the CD changer, not the Aux.
