Well the frequency of this occurence is and has been unknown to owners of the engines thus effected. MB has not released any numbers that I know of. It is caused by defective components, but has not been the subject of a recall. Some owners have reported good will help on repairs.
There is a lot of discussion of this topic on this and other MB boards. I understand that one class action suit that was filed on this issue was denied a hearing in the courts.

This has been known for a long time.. there are other threads on this issue already. I've had to have mine done.

Hi my Vin is WDBTK72F78F237660 on a 2008 CLK 550 with 49,000 miles always maintained by MB Dealers.
Can anyone tell me if I'm in that range that has problems? Thanks

Thanks, I guess my 2008 CLK 550 isn't in the group of affected engines if I'm reading that correctly. It looks like the 08 clk 550 was skipped.
Seems odd that one model year in between wasn't affected, but I'll take that. Thanks

I wonder if my 2011 C class is effected. I know my VIN number isn't there because the lawsuit was in 2010, but did they actually fix the problem in the 2011 models? Very curious about this.

Enjoy your car.
There has been no talk of any major issues in the news since this massive fail.
If there is something down the road, we'll be the last to know.

I have a 2009 CLK 550, not sure if it's in the group with the potential problem. Originally I asked my service rep, he said he never heard of the problem or class action. I was visiting the dealer this week and showed the article to the GM, he replied that he had no knowledge either. Makes me wonder, could this be from MB, instructions to their dealers. Everyone seems so friendly and professional at the dealer, makes me wonder.

Hi,
I am new here & I have a 2006 CLK350 with 115000km. I did the service before 2 days & received the below note at the final report:
1208 constant adjustment of intake camshaft of right cylinder bank in direction 'Retarded' (P0016)
Can you advise me what to do as the service center informed me about the problem & advised me to use my car for longer time for now as it will cost me around 2000$ to open the engine which I don’t like. I am afraid that the engine will stop completely after if I continue driving without fixing it.
If I change the fuel filter & the sensor ring of the camshaft only for this time. Would the problem will be rectified.
Is there any way to contact the MB company to have further help about this issue.
Please advice.
Naif,
KSA

You need to get a P0016 & 17 together to be sure you have the problem. Otherwise just change the cam MAGNETS.

Any approved 229.5 0W-40 is ideal for your temperature range.
