The summary also stated that the driver plus a 20-year-old passenger and a dog manged to survive, though without escaping serious injury.
"without escaping"? I just that means they did have serious injuries? Surviving at all at that speed is amazing.

That really says something about the safety of the M5 if a dog, which is most likely not buckled to a seatbelt, survives a crash like that.
