Removing the CD Changer from the glovebox

Well, the CDC crapped out. I had not used it in a long time and when I did, the display just says "error".

It occurs me that I could use the space for a Glock, so I want to take it out. I cant figure it out, all the fasteners are hidden.

Rud, do we have any service bulletins or pics??

thanks

My 2005 coupe has single black screw at the right-hand side of the changer going up into the top of the glovebox. I had to crawl upside down in the passenger side footwell to see it.
Once that was out the whole unit + metal shell slid to the right to pop out the only other tab holding it in.
A 3 wire connector and a orange fiber cable clipped in the back.

My $.02 but the glove box to me is to far away to get to your gun. Unless it's to lock it in, which I would use the center arm rest....as for when driving (IN TEXAS) I put mine between the seat and the arm rest in it's holster. Don't have my carry permit but we can carry it concealed in our cars. LEO's approach from the passenger side and as a courtousey I inform them if needed to. Just my opinion.

FYI, you'll need a fiber optic coupler to connect in place of the CDC to complete the ring. The dealer sells them, I think about $10.

The screw is on the top right side of the changer. There is a small metal bracket that protrudes from that corner of the changer and the screw goes through it and into the "roof" of the glove compartment.

Here's a thread that discussed the coupler:

http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220...ml#post4659371

Note that the post relates to an S-Class and was solving a different problem, but it has the part number and explains how to remove the existing connector and install the coupler.

2005 C230
Unhappy

ok, I'm new to this forum. Please excuse me if I'm posting in the wrong room or what not, but sounds like you guys might be able to help me

I have a 2005 C230 sedan. I was listening to a CD (CD 2 I believe) in the CD changer (CDC) it was done playing and was moving on to the next CD (CD 3). I wanted to listen to a song on CD2 so I hit the number 2 on the keypad on the front console. The CDC is in the glove compartment. The front console displayed "CDC Error" :-/ I opened the glove compartment and slid the CDC's cover opened and tried hitting the eject button, the light on the eject button blinked but "CDC Error" displayed again on the front console. I tried switching to radio, worked fine. I hit CD and it played CD0 (the one in the front console) fine. So I then hit CDC button.."CDC Error" still :-/

I really hope I don't have to replace the whole CDC changer. Any way to get the CDC magazine out? I tried pushing it, moving it a bit, and keep trying the eject button but no luck..

Normally I'd suggest you head over the the W203 forum, but in the case, there's no difference (the W209 and W203 share the same chassis and many parts) and it's pretty much related to the topic at hand. What I would do is try a "reboot" of the CDD - pull fuse #24 (on the cabin fuse panel).
