My Engine Died! R.I.P
Hi Everyone,
to do a recap, i had my car since 2.5 years. its a 240 Engine.
it has 155,000 KM on its ODOmeter (96000Miles)
i keep regular oil changes with MAN filter (used Mobil 0-40 Full Sync) and then switched to Fusch lately.
since a month ago, start seeing white smoke on cold start up for like 3 seconds and it runs smooth. when i inspected the scent, it smells like really burned oil.
the second issue i started seeing is the gas consumption. my car started doing around 14.5L/100 KM and eventually that really dropped.. so i was doing like 90-85Km/20L...
the mechanic told me that as if i didnt change oil since a lifetime which is not true, and he said that it could be that the previous owner didnt attend to his car too much
My question is as follows:
what would have done this? is it true that this shows after much time i have owned the car?
already started searching for a 320 engine.
yet all i want to know is how did i get my engine to :
here are the images after putting it for repair (engine opened)

As per many threads i read...
Mobil 1 0-40 can run up to 10,000 KM so i ran that oil till 10,000 Km and did the change once the interval beeped.
when i changed to Fusch, i did the change on 5000Km to 6000Km on the engine.
... i drove the car for 55000 KM on my watch... so the last 2 oil changes where Fusch and the others were all MOBILE 1

Oh my oath what a mess. Someone neglected that car at sometime in it's life. What mileage did you get her at? Looks like she might have overheated at some time as well.
M112 with similar mileage run on 229.5 oils changed at 15,000Km intervals with fleece filter.

That is what it should look like. I hope this convinces people to use approved oils.

Yes, when I changed the valve cover gaskets, my C240's M112 engine looked just like Glyn and pskdude's - nice a golden from the Mobil1.
Boull, that engine definitely looks like it overheated. And there is an awful lot of "sludge" in there. This is not normal for that engine.

I have seen this before from non synthetic oil and trying to go 10-13k service intervals.
I dont think this is a mobil 1 engine.

i got the car on 62000 Miles (100000 KM)
i just bought an engine today, couldn't find a 240 engine, so i ended up buying a 320. as per the mechanic, everything can fit from the differential to the transmission.
it never overheated on my watch... so i`m trying to figure out if that is my case... but would that mess be pilling up since the last 2 years i got the car?

once i have it running will keep you updated with the stats..
mainly my 240 used to do 160Km/20L. (this includes 60% in city and 40% highway)
as for the feel.. i will definitly feel a change, the 240 gives a 179 Hp while the 320 gives out 218Hp.. so i guess the difference would be noticeable.

if you are referring here to mileage of the 320, sorry man.. they are not that slick in giving you these info.. yet i bought the engine today and i guess they will start putting it in the car tomorrow.

Wow, my jeep Liberty with 100000 miles is cleaner, sad to see an engine treated like that.
And the miles should not be that bad, my 350 and 550 get closer to the same miles

Also the oil draining hole in the head can have a cast skin that makes problems and has to be opened and look like this.

The Engine number depends on the type of your car and model year. Usually written down in your Datasheet. I can see it with the vin in my EPC/WIS.
The number usually is located underneath the engine, not easy to describe. In the area where the engine and transmission meets.

My Engine would probably look like yours if i would not clean the vent/degassing holes in the head cover last year. It is a known problem of the M112 engines. http://www.m112technikcheck.bplaced....nalproblem.htm

i don't have a VIN on my car, its not US Spec. but i guess my engine was something of 940 as i understood from the mechanic on the phone and to upgrade to a 320, i need the 955..well something like that

I have the W208 320 with the m112.940 and i guess the W209 320 has the M112.955. I live in Germany and my car isnīt US spec. too
