Oil Type & Interval's

Hi all this is probably a simple question that has been beat to death but here goes anyway.
For a 2006CLK350 what type of engine oil and what change interval's are most of you using and what does MB recommend? I'm old school and used to changing engine oil at 3000-3500 miles which is probaly overkill with todays engines and syn. oils.
Just curious thanks.

Use an oil that meets MB Spec 229.5, a synthetic fleece filter, and go by the interval on the instrument cluster MFD, which be be about 12K miles or 12 months, whichever comes first. I like Mobil 1 0w40 "Euro Formula" and Mann fleece filters.

To display the miles remaining until service, use the "page" buttons on the steering wheel until the MFD displays either the outside temperature or current speed. Then use the arrows on the steering wheel to scroll until you see the maintenance screen.

Do you have your owner's manual? If not, you can download it from mbusa.com - go to the "Owner's" section and you'll find it there, along with the maintenance interval manual and (if you need it ) COMAND manual.

I'll be doing my oil change on the clk every 3-5k.. My daily driver is a civic hybrid and the oil (synthetic) is super brown after 3k miles... I can't imagine doing it longer than that!

Note that the proper oil used with the extended change intervals on the MBZ engines is not just "synthetic". It is a specially formulated oil meant for long duty cycles. Also, it uses 8.5-9 quarts, unlike your Civic which uses maybe 4. On top of that, the MBZ engines use a synthetic fleece filter with about 10x the surface area of what is used on your Civic.

I've driven many hundreds of thousands of miles on MBZ engines using the recommended oils, filters and long change intervals. Personally, I think going with shorter intervals is just wasteful, but if you want to spend the money that is your decision. Note that even as a DIY change, expect to spend around $75 - the filter is about $15 and two 5-quart jugs of Mobil 1 0w40 Euro formula at WalMart is about $60.

Was just about to ask where you got the Euro formula from!

Excellent!

Noted and will be getting that soon!

Thanks,
