How many beers and what kind to drink when working on your vehicle?
I figure I must save a $1000 a year doing my own work (Brake pads, bushings, spark plugs etc.) Today I'm going to replace inner tie rods and outer ball joints. Guessing it's going to take 2 hours or so in my garage. Just wondering... what's the correct amount of beer to consume while doing it? I think 1 bottle of Sam Adams Octoberfest per 1/2 hour. Is that about right? Thoughts and experience?

Red wine for me. A bottle every half hour! Best thing I ever did working on my car was have a work conference call while I did an entire brake job. I'd unmute my cell when I heard my name, then go do another wheel. They all thought I was in my office.

1 coors light per hour... I'm an amateur compared to you guys and only wax and detail my cars... Pretty tanked at the end though

I think the correct allocation is driven by one's age and level of expertise. I have a lot of one and not much of the other.
1 Coors light per 2 hours (or at job completion)
- before 50 it was 1/hr
- before 35 it was 2/hr
my level of expertise has always remained about the same......

Hahah.. funny you should mention book rates Rudeney.. You really need to take a few long brakes and down a few beers in order to get your completion time up to the book time when doing maint. I swear who comes up with those times? They must include coffee brakes every half hour?

Beer? Nope. Makes you sluggish and full for no reason. I drink red wine or maybe sip on some whiskey...Slippery slope though. Too little and you're wasting your time...too much and you start misplacing tools. The right balance takes years to master.
On the other hand I think I paint a lot better when I've had something to drink. Check out the anthracite grey. I don't remember putting the last 2 coats on

That is a nice paint job! Reminds me of an old martial arts movie where this guy had a style of martial arts called the "drunken style". real kickass......
