Check Engine Light - Purge Control Valve Issue

Hi Guys,
I'm still relatively new to the Mercedes world (~8 months), and am trying to troubleshoot a fault code that's causing my 'Check Engine' light to come on in my 2004 CLK320.
I have an iCarsoft tool that's giving me the following error message:
P2026-004 Y58/1 (Purge control valve) Open circuit/switchover valve permanently closed (P0444)
I've cleared up several fault codes myself, all electrical stuff that I was happy to replace. But this one has me stumped.
I searched around a bit, but it appears the solution varies from situation to situation.
Anyone have any suggestions on where to start? Should I look for an indy to take a look at this?

Out Of Control!!

Y58/1 activated charcoal filter purge control valve,is not a motor, but a simple valve that is actuated(opens and closes) by the ECU to empty the canister into the intake manifold.I may be mistaken however I would look to the canister area(behind the R rear wheel cover) for the valve!!

Thanks Rudeney and Plutoe for your replies. The check engine light disappeared on its own. My iCarsoft reader says that the error is stored in the history, but not active anymore. I know sometimes these faults can come and go.
If it returns, I'll be using the image you provided to give this a quick look myself, and will likely stop by my mechanic to get his opinion.
I'll update this thread if anything else happens. Thanks guys!

Hi everyone,
I am having similar problems with my purge valve as well (clk55amg). I find it mostly happens when I fill up the tank. Is this valve some kind of breather for the fuel tank. Will I need to remove the fuel tank to replace the valve? or is it easily reachable inside the rear wheel arch as I seem to recall someone mentioning this a while back. The check engine light sometimes goes off after a while, but it still worries me while its on. Which part is most likely to be at fault, the valve by the tank or the solenoid in the engine bay.

Hi there, I know its been quite a while since you post this here but, by any chance could you solve that issue? Im having the exact same experience with my 2007 ML350. Every time going for a refuel, not even topping up, just half a tank, suddenly while driving back home, check engine light pops, and same code: DTC 0851: Purge control valve: opencircuit/switchover valve permanently closed (P0444). How did you solve it?
