COmments please

Ok. We are all aware of the fakirs who try to up-badge their cars, sticking AMG and M stuff on their Mercs and Bimmers.

But what about the guys who go the opposite route have all the badging temoved? I don't know about Merecedes guys (having been a BMW driver for 30 years), but you would ofteen see a 3 or 5 series BMW and not kno if it was a 318, 325, 328 or 540. 525, etc.

Are they hopomg we assume it must be a higher class model - really expensive and powerfull when it isn't, or that their car is such a fabulous model that they don't want all the.......what?....comments, adulation, chics,. etc?

I have no clue why it bothers me so much when people do this...

I have found one reason possibly in the Cavaliers case is.... Parking tickets... when they dont use vins... person writing ticket doesnt really know cars & puts down wrong type of car.... Cavalier driver says its not my car... how can you mistake a ... for A..... too much drama to avoid a ticket I think.... When you can jus park in the correct place or jus pay the ticket.

or maybe a joke we're not in on....

As for the car that bothered me...

Full disclosure, I'm guilty of drinking and posting again. So take the post for what it is worth. It is too f-ing cold outside to go driving [joke]. that said, I actually thought the vid was pretty cool and I am probably at least twice your age.

This is all rich guys/gals who don't know what they have. Never bother to learn on their car because "that's what the shops for" so they don't even know their vehicle code. It's depressing but that's what happens when your a true car lover of name brands. I have a guy in my home town who has a w202 badged clk 320 it's a 4-door btw. Lol

With all due respect, I think you over generalize. Check out some of the other threads and you will learn that a number of MBW members even perform engine rebuilds on the cars they love. True, some rely fully on the dealer for even the most simple of service tasks, and most fall somewhere in between. I personally don't see why any of that really matters though. We all share a love of cars and MBs in particular.

I agree. what I was saying that the ones who rely on the dealer for the most simple tasks. Those also seem to be the ones false badging and Un-badging their cars are often those exact people. They don't care about their car as much as we do.

I feel you on this they actually look alright debadged but my issue is how do I know the difference between amg cls or a base model. I don't know enough about the cls to tell other differences like most of us do. Plus if you de badge your car but you know a lot on it your not necessarily a jerk. I just have always thought you brought a brand name and show us you represent it. But I see where your coming from.

the quad exhaust, sound, calipers, and bad *** look should be enough to tell the difference between a "base" model and an "AMG" model. I love the look of a blacked out CLS amg with tinted tails and rims. Beautiful car!

Plus sometimes having the nicer version doesnt require you to flaunt it. I like subtelty as I have blacked out my badges. Sometimes I like you to wonder what my car is especially when I burn away from you! haha

I personally removed just the "300e" on my car. No I don't think anybody is going to say or think my car is a 500e or a 400e, I just like the clean trunk. Besides, Let the ricer that just pulled up think I have a four-banger, oh well his loss

On another note, anyone else think of "99 Red Balloons" listening to the song at the top of the page?

I removed my E430 badge because I hate badges. When I had my 328 I even removed and filled in the BMW badge. Took them all off of my SRT-8 Grand Cherokee. And removed them off of my R1...

For me it is not that I am trying to hide anything. I just hate badges.

study the cars: the differences are subtle but they're there

bingo! trained eyes know what to look for; it's a passion to be able to identify a particular car by the traits you mentioned.....
there are also clue's in the car too like on the seats etc....

Thanks cal1! We put tons of work into recording the new album

In other news, I've finished installing the amg brakes on my homemade amg
For those of you unaware of what I'm talking about

I had a 02 cl500 amg appearance package but put in a e55 amg transmission, cl55 amg engine, amg brakes and most importantly

ADDED THE AMG LOGO ON THE TRUNK *THUMBS UP MULLET SMILEY*

Yeah, it probably isn't cool from an old fart like me,but I thought the sound had a bit of the late seventies punk kinda vibe like the stuff the Dead Boys and Voidoids were doing back then.

Of course he knows he drives a fake but he likes attention so every once in a while he shows up on this thread so people talk about his ride and his music. Pretty sad.
