Muffler for CLK55 W208
I want a deeper, throatier sound from my CLK55. Perhaps even a little loader too. Can I install Dynoflow of similar that you'd find on an American car? Will I be able to keep AMG tips?

You can put magnaflow mufflers and get a better sound. I'd cut the resonator if I were you. That should do the trick. Don't even have to buy a muffler. Just replace it w/ piping and a y pipe. Should cost under $150. It cost me about $90. I also have a high flow muffler, but that makes it even louder.

I have yet to put it up on my garage hoist. Is there cats that can be cut out too? I live in Albetra where there is no exhaust testing.

I killed the 2nd cats (by the resonator, center of the car) and the resonator and replaced it w/ 2.5" straights...no CEL issues so far (2 wks). The o2 sensors are before the 2ndary cats

CLK 55 AMG
Just wondering, what does removing the 2nd cats achieve? Does removing just the resonator give it a good sound?
also, would removing the resonator mess up anything? would it still be able to pass a smog check? etc?

cats are for power due to flow losses in the cat (maybe a little weight too). probably minimal. the resonator is just for sound and weight and will not cause smog/emissions problems

Has any check engine lights come on? I'm gonna cut out secondary cats and resinators and will hopefully unleash some sound and performance.

i've removed my secondary cats and resonator, not that much of a increase in sound while driving around, but sounds pretty good at WOT. if you want loud, put on that magnaflow, if you want extra loud, just straight pipe it from the o2 sensors back.
im planning on just putting on an electronic cutout so that i can have 2 options of sound level. =D

No check engine light issues at all. Removing the secondary cats, resonator, and eisenmann race make an exciting combination!

Took my W209 CLK 55 to the muffler shop today and they said I dont have a resonator on my car model??? They said I just had a muffler. Not to ask a stupid question or anything, but where is the resonator on this model if there is one because I thought all mercedes had resonators?

Good point. I think W209 CLK55's do not have resonators, but the OP's asking about W208 CLK55's which still do, I believe.
I would recommend: 1) Cut the resonators and drive it around for 100 miles. See if you like the sounds and performance. 2) If that doesn't do it, then take out the cats if you want and that way you know the difference between the two steps.
