Metal Core high flow cats now only $75 on ebay....
Found another seller on ebay selling the same 300-cell metal core high flow cats for only $75 shipped each. If you haven't done high flow cats yet, now would probably be the best time to do so for only $150 shipped for the pair. Always trying to bargain hunt for you guys

Speaking from experience - as long as the substrate holds up, you'll pass with aftermarket cats. My name-brand-supplier's cats were dead in two years, but YMMV. The tough part will be finding someone in SoCal to install cats that don't have a CARB sticker.
Per the California Air Resources Board website the following cats are legal for OBDII Mercedes Benz’
- Car Sound (Magnaflow) 46000 series cats for 1996-2000
- AirTek (CATCO) 410000 series cats for 1995-2002 (can't find them in the CATCO catalog)
- Miller Catalyzer Corp 12000/11000 series cats for 1995-2004
- Valina (CarTex) 12500 series cats for 1996-2000.

The cats are OBD2 compliant and 49 state legal rated up to 5.9L. Honestly though there will be no way in hell they could ever tell it wasn't legal. Also metal core cats last longer, fire up quicker, and do a better job of cleaning up emissions. Only downside is they cost a bit more. As long as you have real secondaries they won't bother you.
On a stock car 300-cell metal core cats will make 10HP/12TQ on dyno, on a modded car they will make more. Hope that helps.

They are same brand, just cheaper retailer. I wish I had found them earlier but they just popped up recently so now I'm recommending the cheaper of the two (obviously). Hope that helps.

Andy,
They are universal so they can be applied to pretty much any car. The gains on the 55 AMG are much greater though, you may only pick up a few HP on your CLK320, but if you want more sound then its a possible way to go. Your CLK320 though has more restriction in it so there are other bottle necks in the system.
To truly wake up the car you would need a set of our headers in conjunction with the high flow 2nd cats. Those will really wake up your exhaust note (even with stock resonator & muffler, which are recommended to be kept in place).
Hope that helps,

My 430 has a theoretical flow capacity of 451 CFM at 6000 RPM. Because of the CLK exhaust design, each cat can only see half the total capacity. Based on that, to see increased HP and torque across the band, with a 10 HP improvement at peak, my current cats would have to flow less than 225 CFM. Hmm . . . . . 225 . . . . . . . by comparison, I know of one Hyper Flow cat that flows 580 CFM. I could be wrong, but I wouldn’t expect much.
Each CLK320 cat only needs to flow 170 CFM.
Each CLK55 cat needs to flow 285 CFM.
Anyone have a before/after dyno where the reset was done before BOTH runs? In the past, it's been demonstrated that HP can be increased on a dyno by untying one's shoes (and doing the reset
), so the reset is kind of necessary.
