my s/c "kit" is coming couple q's

Donor car: 2005 e55 amg

receipient: 2001 clk 55 amg

whats coming:

s/c assy, heads, cams, airboxes, water pump etc.....

im in negotiation with the seller and if the price is right I may get the rods/pistons too.

Good idea or just try to make it work with extra compression by reducing boost and/or timing?

donor CR 9.0:1

receipient CR 10.5:1

Next, is the stock rad sufficient to cool the s/c setup?

my thinking is if i swap in the rods/pistons my m113 basically becomes an e55 amg engine which tuners will be much more familiar with vs a hybrid with the headache of extra compression. i also believe more power can be had by using the lower compression pistons bc i can up the boost more.

opinions?

While my experience with "Other" brand cars would say the lower c/r pistons would be a benefit for your blown app, i've heard from a couple threads that serious built kleemann cars attempted reduceing c/r and lost power. I think it had to do with the blower NOT being able to be spun up enough to make the boost to make-up for the lost c/r. (don't quote me, it's what I recall).

Since you're not using the kleemann... this should not apply to you.

Are you getting the e55K ecu as well?

Wish I could help more with the cooling question, and ecu issues. I'm clearly a MB newb..... and am currently relegated to being a credit card tuner

I'm pretty sure my N/A heads are HE.

Don't know about the 55K heads.

Marcus is the tech man around here. Maybe he'll chime in.

Regarding tech - I totally agree about the lack of detailed tech/info. I wonder if there is a good MB ECU tech book avail>

Good to see a hotrodder running around here.

Just swap the engines? Will make it a little easier, at least you wont need to rip into the bottom end. Buy the e55 setup, Sell your N/A engine and use whats left to get that bad boy running! Good Luck!

In addition to the parts DOHC has purchased, 55K engines have different part numbers for the crank and block. In addition to the rods being a different, the rod bearings are different as well (part numbers). It will be enlightening to find out whether K rods will fit on a non-K crank. The 55K has double springs, so the 1550530020 springs may prove beneficial.

i haven't purchased the rods and pistons yet. i have an appointment with the dealer next week. ill get em to pull a set of rod bearings to see if there is any difference in size. I should be ok on the springs bc i bought the complete cylinder head assemblies already.

thanx for the info.....def worth investigating.

it will be my assumption that they will interchange without issue if merc is like any other manufacturer.

the mechanics part is very easy in this conversion, but you will defenitly need to change your ecu and engine wiring harness to make it run on the e55 software, also the amout of boost you will be running is going to be too much. i have done the same thing to my clk but i did custom tune my ecu and fabbed a custom intake because i retained the air mass, this conversion is not for the faint heart and i really suggest you not pay by the hour for it. you will also need the timing case + all the pulleys to run the double pulley setup. if i was to do it all over again i wuld have bought a compete engine, ecu, and harness. that way you will retain the oem quality + u can upgrade more...

i went to the dealer and unfortunately they didn't have any parts in stock for me to compare but they did inform me that the rods are physically the same but the bearing thickness may be different. with that in mind looks like all i may need to make it work would be to use clk 55 bearings on e55 rods. im not sure of the timing case, can you describe it? i know i have all the pulleys n crap tho. luckily the person that has the parts hasnt shipped them yet.

honestly, it will take some time before this becomes a reality. basically i have a stick intake and a set of 05 e55 heads coming. i will send those to a machine shop and swap them then drive the car until something breaks before proceeding with the swap bc it appears it will be easier to pull the engine to make it happen.

This swap has already been done by 4 people . One guy in the W203 C55 section with success(supercharger and accesories only), MBenzman with the W208CLK55(supercharger and accessories only),MoneyOne who swapped out his 5.4L out of his C43 and dropped in an entire 55k motor, and,a guy with a CLS500 who recently swapped out the whole entire engine and put in a 55k motor with much success.

i stand to lose some cash here since i didn't get the timing case or whatever. found out too late i need that piece to make the swap work .

i will recoup what i can and move on. i'll definately make use of the heads and possibly use the cams as cores to have ground for more duration.
