The cold weather has a way of changing how happy the engine is. I have a turbo-diesel 124 that hates it as well.
I have an 02 clk55 for about 5 months now and learning a lot from the forums. The lifters on the right bank started tickng as the climate changed. I opened up the valve cover today to see if sludge was the problem. The engine looks new inside . Go figure. I am using Mobile 1 0-40 full synthetic.
I searched google and nothing actually pinpoints the fix.
Has anyone encountered this problem with V8 mercedes?

The weather has been great (springlike) for January. Lifter noise gradually became quiet and dissappeared (engine sounds new). Our engines are of family 113. I did some hardcore research and followed a 119 engine thread and came up with some diagnostics plans.
Will post some results when parts start arriving.

WOW!!, Dats the name of Dat tune (quote Robert Blake).

I always accept challenge but this is getting interesting. Rap, Tap, Click and quiet.
Fortunately no damage is occouring and I had to tame my driving style until some parts arrive. I am going to remove right side cam and clean the lubrication tubes to the rockers and blow out all oil galeries in the head. Replace the lifters on the R bank.

Hey Guys,
I recieved the parts last week and surprised to find a made in germany stamp. I would have attempted the repair last week but had my wifes T-bird pulled apart a for security system install.
The lifters are pressed into the rocker arm and held in place with a circlip. The overall replacement was simple, I took some pictures but not downloading to site yet.
I did not have a manual and decided to fab a timing chain holder tool in the event timing gears decided to move. I tie strapped the chain to the cam gear but the cam and chain never moved durring the service.
The lifters were taped out with an ice pic from the top and installed with a part of the old lifter. only light tapping was required.
The rap, tick, click is completely gone, I am very pleased with the repair and the quality of parts from autohousaz.
I still have to reel in some bmw and 32v caddy to test the results.

The majority of rap is completely gone and on occasion I get a click n tick.
I am not completely satified and going in deeper.
The 119 thread suggested removing the lower oil pan for inspection as the 119 collects a lot of debris from the chain guides and other wear items.
We are 113 but its an easy inspection requiring only import spec RTV sealer.
I had a ford with a clogged screen in the late eighties but the sounds were more severe.
I have some great internal photos to share once I figure how to upload them.

I have been on other projects and had some spare time to work on photography download.
This is a test.photo

Any how the engine was spotless inside aside some deposits collected in the lower creases of the oil pan, no metal or babbit was found.
I found a thread on the 113 searching oil pressure regulator. Following suit, I removed the oil pump and found the regulator is plastic in nature with a small spring and check valve orfice. The rubber seal was rock harde and brittle and the check valve had a piece of filter media looking substance. I found a part number on the thread A611-180-01-15 and ordered from the dealer, expecting today or tommorow.
I can program most anything but my imaging experience needs upgrading.

Im cured with no more RAP except for chappy's fun + I will upgrade the photolink above for the cure. I purchased a new pressure relief valve from the dealer and a new filter cage from Autohausaz.com. The new cage is equipped with Fleece element but is a bit taller than stock.

It worked for me!!!!!!!, I am rippin instead of rapppin, The engine sounds new again!!!

Well done Gator. Please post all the images if possible as your experience will definitely aid us in the future. Is the new pressure regulator you recieved from agents plastic as well or did they upgrade it to aluminum or the likes?

There is a link to one gallery for this old project post 14. I am not a social media guru. but these cars are worth the effort.
I replaced the left bank lifters when the engine was apart for mods last fall. All are semi-new now.

Chappy is Happy when his knee a slappin. no trans slippin and rubber smell is mans bes friend.
