Performance chips for 2002 clk55
Hi new member to mbworld, and just purchased a cabriolet 2002 clk55, and wondering if there is anyone out there that has put in one of the performance chips for the ECU and had any feedback.

I've got the PowerChip in my E55 and my CLK430. The midrange punch is huge! I highly recommend it! Be prepared to buy wider tires

they claim something like 17 peak HP additional but I haven't used my G-Tech yet. Bottom end still sucks but it pulls much harder in the middle. I can spin the stock tires during a full throttle 2-1 downshift. That never happened before. First gear now also shifts at 6000 instead of 5800 like it used to.
My E55 was measured with the G-Tech and it dropped from 5.0-1 down to a more consistent 4.9. Traction is a problem in the first 2 gears. Full throttle 2-1 downshifts without ESP produce wild tire spin and end swapping if I'm not careful.

Renntech
Talked to the Renntech VP for Southern California yesterday (at the LA Auto Show). He said, Renntech can flash your ECU without taking out your existing chip and re-welding a new one. Visually, the Dealer couldn't tell you upgraded the ECU.

You may be right, but that wasn't the impression I got from the RennTech rep or the Brabus rep.
