200 clk320
2001 clk55 purchase

I currently own a 2000 clk320. I was having service work done at
my dealership this am and spotted a 2001clk55 on the lot.
It is black with charcoal/blue interior.
Car has 8,850 miles.
Can anyone advise me if $43,900 is a fair "dealer price". I have checked
kelly and know that the car is worth approx $47,000.
I would not be trading mine in but would be selling it private party.
Car appears to be in perfect condition and would be starmarked to 100k.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

2001 CLK55 AMG
That is a great deal. Watch, now other people on the board are going to jump in and say that at auction blah, blah, blah, blah, blah... I can't think of a car that I'd rather have for under $50K. I may have to sell my baby in a month or two for an upcoming business opp. Mine has 9500 miles, is mint, and is Starmarked to 100K. You will probably have to pay to have the Starmark extended to 100K. Have you test driven it yet?????

I'd recommend taking it to a few body shops which specialize in MB products...

...make sure it hasn't been wrecked and/or flooded...pretty damn good price for a Starmarked car imo...good luck!

I would believe that any dealer price on a used car is not fair...there are always some dollars to play with. Offer him somthing under 40 and wait for his counter...you should be able to meet somewhere in between.

What is the time frame on the starmark? It will probably expire before you get to the mileage provisions.

No longer car shopping...
Be carefull of "Starmarked" cars. Although it's not suppose to be the case, I found a lot of problems with supposely starmarked cars. One had faulty electronics, another the wiring for the mirrors was done backward. On another, it had been flooded. Unfortunately, Benz dealers are just like other dealers in that they want to make a buck. Make CERTAIN to get a copy of ALL service work that's ever been done on the car. Check it our your self by taking the car to a non-dealership mechanic. But, as far as price goes, that's pretty good if everything checks out to be on the up-and-up. It's true you can get a pretty good 2001 CLK55 coupe off the auctions for around $38-39K now-a-days but since the warranty on all of those has either already expired or will shortly expire, the extra $2 or $3K is not a bad premium for an extra year of coverage. You DO know that the Starmark only extends the warranty for 1 year beyond the original OR up to 100K, right? In your case, it's pretty unlikely that you would get anywhere near the 100K mark in less than a year so make certain you understand when the car was placed into service before you make any offers. Even then, be aware that it won't REALLY be warranted through 100K but rather would carry a warranty for about 1 year from the date you pusrchase it.

Last year March I bought a 2001 CLK55 with 14K miles and 1year/100K miles Starmark(after existing warranty expire) for $50,000. It has everything except Command. I thought the deal was fair and jump on it. I did have the car inspected by a local body shop to make sure there is nothing wrong/accident with the car. I also purchase additional 2 years of Starmark warranty because I am planning to keep the car for a while. I honestly believed at $43K for a 2001 CLK55 is not bad at all. I would negotiate for additional warranty for peace of mind.

I would strongly suggest you bring a friend and inspect the car thoroughly. I inspect the car twice just to make sure I didn't miss anything. It is a fun car to drive and it has been problem free since I bought it. Now a day, I rarely take my 2002 E55, that car belongs to my wife and the baby now. Good luck.

John
