What's up man... If I remember correctly, Robert Feller built your engine too.. My 05' C55 now has 6,500 miles and I just got the oil & filter changed. It's good to know that Mr. Feller is good a building hardy engines.. Just out of curiosity, how exactly was the engine acting funny just before you had the service done?

hey its the other dude with the Feller engine. he better have built it strong....God knows I put it to the test!
It wasn't really acting strange...it was just making a clicking noise....must've been the tappets or lifters? My old mercury sable used to do make that same noise when the oil got too thin.

Car still runs great.

2yrs without oil change? Oil must be black! Even with synthetic you should change it once a yr regardless of miles. My c36 has over 94k miles and it doesnt use any oil. I do drive it hard.

Geez, read the thread. I was told the services were not free unless I follow the computers directions on when to change it. It never told me to get a service. Never. Unfortunately I followed the computer until after two years I said enough is enough.

By the way....the clicking noise I was having went away after my oil change. I think the oil was either low or thin?

That sounds like good advice. I changed mine at fifteen months even though I had only put about 3k miles on the car. Felt better afterwards.

I had asked the dealer at the one year point and like a zombie he said no, just follow the FSS. An independent MB mechanic did it, saving me some money. I didn't reset the FSS counter -- mustn't upset the zombies.

BTW I plan on keeping my CLK a looooong time ....

I know it was stupid. I trusted the dealership too much. Believe me, I learned my lesson. I change my oil every 3K miles now wether it needs it or not. I also plan on keeping this car for a long time.

My car is a 2003 with the FSS system. I gues the 2005 models have set intervals now.

Should have been 720 days or approximately 13000 miles.

Thats was the problem.....after two years I was only at 11K miles. I guess the computer wasn't counting down days just milage. The dealership said it could go until 15K miles. Its was then I said enough was enough. This computer is retarded. LOL

Whats up Stiggs?

I have a local shop do the service A for me, he says every 6 months or 5000 mi. whichever came first.

I do trust him because my old E420 had no lifter tick whatsoever, smooth as glass and was probably in better shape than my CLK55. The car had its reg. oil changed every 3000 mi or 3 mos.

g'luck!

Thinking about my noisy lifters and dug up my old thread. It looks like my lifters were noisy back in 2005 too. Well now they are noisier than ever. The car has almost 37K miles and I just had the oil changed at 35K miles. So I'm not ready for new oil yet I don't think. Only thing I haven't done is check the oil through the computer.
I get this loud ticking noise after the car has warmed up. Its very noticable when the car is just sitting at idle. When I first start her up it isn't that loud but gets louder after. I'm gonna try a few bottles of Techron in the gas tank and see how that goes. I'll post the results later.
Is this noise basically due to the fact that my car is not driven on a daily basis? I may go a week or two without driving her, and sometimes is just for a short sprint down the road. Is there anything bad that can come from these noisy lifters? Will my engine explode one day?

M113's have roller tipped rocker arms, so unlike the valvetrain in some cars, a bad lifter won't lead to a flat cam lobe. Have you checked the purge valve? They've been known to make tapping noises like a bad lifter. Unlike a lifter, the purge valve can be changed by an apprentice in under an hour.

If the Techron doesn't work then thats my next step. I'll bring it in to the dealership and see whats the deal. Thanks.
