I really like it, but needs more, like a carbon fiber roof or something. If it is $130+, then its way overpriced.

Screw it, I'm down. I wouldn't call it a bargain at $130k, but it seems to be special enough to warrant the price.

You could get a Gallardo for that price,

I WOULD GET A GALLARDO for that price.

130k+ serously? OVERPRICED by about 30-45 Thousand.

For that kind of money your talking (or at least i am) power to weight ratios in the 6lbs per hp area.

Like:
FORD GT
GALLARDO
C6 Z06 Vette (only 70k)
05 CL 65
Porsche 911 tt or GT3
VIPER or new 600hp viper.

As far as for track use, yea it's better than most Mercedes, but then again that not saying much, since mercedes even some AMG's SUCK for the track. Weither it be 1/4 mile or a circuit.

Their center of gravity is too high, weight to much, not enough rubber to the ground. No manual offered (probally since Mercedes know that people who have money and want a fast car buy Porsche or BMW) Seats aren't made for harnesses, like the DTM is.

Yeah, so it has 265 Front and 285 rear, Granted that is an improvement, but for a 500+ horsepower car, that is OVERWEIGHT, not big enough. needs atleast 305 or larger in the rear.

However, I am glad to see that they are improving the suspension with coilovers that are adjustable, and that they are puting in a LSD.

This all coming from a Mercedes Driver.

gallardo's are not that cool or great of a car to me.
is that official that it is 130k???
that sucks
a 911TT will run circles around it for that price and has the back seat thing which I need and should probably shut up about!

gallardos are crap and fall apart. and too common, oddly enough. a crazy stupid benz with no rear seats is more novel.

agreed. a true performance car does not have a torque converter anyway, so its a moot point. this would be a fun "track day" car for a business person or similar individual with the means. asphalt junkies will still go for a porsche gt2/gt3/rs

Exactly. As far as i'm concerned for that much money, as far as mercedes goes and the models it offers here in the states it's the most "track" oriented benz offered here in the US. (DTM & SLR excluded)

But for sheer performance, a track car, and for someone who knows what a decreasing radius turn is and is willing to pay 130k+ Get a
FORD GT
VIPER
C6 Z06
PORSCHE

I've been reading up on the 997 911 RS, that thing is gonna be a BEAST.

GT3RS, the only thing going for it is the wider rear track since its based on the Carrera 4 chassis, (the GT3 is based on the Carrera 2). Other than that, its just a sticker upgrade from the regular GT3, no engine upgrade, no suspension upgrade. Porsche is making out like a bandit on the RS.

Its exclusive and that's what people are buying it for. I doubt we'll see any on a track. So far, Porsche has delivered 58 and rumor is when the factory shuts down for the model year change, that will be it for the GT3RS.

ok, I'll bite....

Single-mass flywheel
Close ratio 6 speed gearbox
Standard Ceramic brakes
Adjustable Carbon Rear Wing
20 kg lighter than the standard GT3

In the hands of a serious driver, the GT3RS will be quicker around any track any time.

All this for what, 25K more than a standard GT3?

Why you hating? Stickers........

Standard Ceramic Brakes? No, its an $8K option available on any 911.

Gear Ratio is the same as in the GT3.

Single Mass flywheel. Yes.

Adjustable wing. Yes. But its outrageously large. In fact, if it wasn't on a Porsche, people would make fun of it as being ricer.

So you get to chose from bright colors (orange and green) and limit its production and Porsche get's to charge you $20K more.

I'll add that the GT3 itself is an awesome machine. I just don't see that big a difference in performance btw the GT3 and RS. Just exclusivity. Which it seems is a big big deal for some people.

For the most part, norb is right. For the US market, besides the obvious bodywork differences, colors, and stripes, the only things that separate the cars are the LW flywheel (easily installed in a standard GT3) and some aluminum suspension bits. And the RS is the only way to get a sunroof-less 997 in the US. Since you could theoretically build your own for less than the price difference, the premium is for exclusivity.

For the rest of the world, the RS gets standard CF buckets, rear roll cage, racing harnesses, competition fire extinguisher, and a plexi rear window all standard, so in other markets it truly is a track-oriented car with a justified price premium.

Is this really a limited production car? If it's just another mass produced AMG it's hard to justify a 100K sticker for a more "track-like" car when Porsche has the GT3.

I have no idea why the US models are "pussed" out. I can understand having standard side airbags and the other safety features to pass US safety laws, but why would a roll cage or racing harness be dropped?

I believe US DOT regs require retractable three-point belts, all interior pieces to be soft and skull-friendly to keep those that don't believe in seatbelts from hurting themselves, and seats to be deformable.

Even if these parts were allowed by the US DOT, the car would have to be crash-tested with them, which may not be cost-effective for limited runs like the CLK63 BS (350) and GT3RS (259). Not to mention potential future legal issues for providing "racing" parts on a street vehicle.

NO ONE CAN. I personally spoke with Herr Volker Mornhinweg the president and CEO of AMG GmbH at last nights AMG event from the NYC auto show. He told me to my face that there is NO PRICING for the CLK63 Black Edition for now. He did tell me that Mercedes should have final pricing by the end of the month. As fare as I'm concerned all other prices that are flying around are just pure speculation.

I posted some pic's from last night on the E55 forum:

You are correct. A little later in the night I did have one of the representatives tell me it will be under $150 by how much I do not know.

To answer one of the other questions. Yes this is a limited production car only 350 will be made for the US.
