Had to replace both front Strut assemblies in my CLK Black at 2500 miles. The car was making a horrible creaking noise when you turned the wheel lock to lock. Took 2 weeks for the parts to come in from Germany. Anyone had a similar problem?

Some of us have mentioned here that we have experienced similar noises only in very cold temps when you first move your car. Some of have said its due to the existence of urethane bushings intead of rubber. Was yours making noises more often than that?

Mine does the same when cold. As soon as the bushings see about a mile of use they make no noise. I also notice it mostly at opposite lock while maneuvering when the car is cold.

Mine does it in either direction, but only when cold. Once the car is warmed up or driven for a very short while they noise goes away. I also thought that it is becuase of the bushings. Is there an underlying issuew here? Has anyone else had to change their fron struts?? Chime in if you have.

It did it in the summer and in the winter. I really started to notice it after a long drive down to Rhode Island in August. 78 degree day. Dry roads. When I got home that evening, it had gotten so bad, I was going to put on my trailer and bring it to the dealer. I guess I should describe the noise. A very loud creaky door is the best way to put it. My tech talked to MB and they recommended changing both struts. Noise is gone.

I haven't had any problems with my BS yet. However, my M6 has some noise coming from the drivers side strut, but only when cold. Since it goes away after driving it for a couple of minutes, I thought I wait until it's due for the 1200 miles service. BTW, how many miles did you have on the car when it first started to make that noise?

Around 2K. It has never been tracked. At least not yet. Like I said, came on slow at first, then, very noticeable, then, unbearable.

The hydraulic fluid failed, or rather lost viscosity like your engine oil. It isn't uncommon when excessive cold or heat is exerted on the strut, and hydraulic oil. The units also could have been defective from the factory. Not common at all, especially in the AMG BS series cars, but can happen.

It is also possible that it wasn't the strut at all, but the mount, or spring seat, or airmatic suspension (sorry don't remember what the CLK 63 BS has).

That's strange. If MB changed the whole strut, than I guess it's not just some bushing problem. My car is lower, has H&R springs and adjustments to both compression and rebound. I also tracked my car a few times, so I think it is a manufacturing and/or assembly problem rather than a high rate of fatigue.

Did the new strut solve the problem? The KW's are pretty trouble free but the tender spring set up can cause a lot of strange noise in cold weather as well.

Yes, it did solve the problem. I don't think that I will hear much more of it considering Cape Cod is a remote location for a rare car like the BS. I was interested to hear quite a few of your had heard the same type of noise in your own cars. With so few out there, it really helps to have direct input from other owners. Thanks guys.

Yes, only front struts. I had the tech check the car on all four corners. He found nothing else. If anything else comes up with the front, I will let you all know. We have finally gotten rid of all the snow up hear. So, I am going to take the car out for a spirited drive. I'm sure everything will function properly.
