ROW air boxes
I made an inquiry about some ROW air boxes for sale from ECS and they responded that they wouldn’t work on a Black Series. I was under the impression that all of the 6.3 engines used the same air boxes.
a few companies make these. I bought and installed new dry air filters from weistec(NOT the ROW airboxes) and removed the charcoal filter while i was in there, and noticed a nice little increase in sound and performance. The sound was a nice surprise. So much so that i didnt want to do anything else and ruin the car's stock specs.
I did not, but I only owned the car for a week before putting them on. Car already had secondary cats deleted so also didn't pick up additional sound. Glad to have clean filters though!

An old thread here posted these videos of how it sounds. Keep in mind this is just a straight cut out H pipe. Nothing further than that as I believe some have done x pipes. It's just as quiet as a stock car at idle, but it wakes up a little more when you really get on it. For me it's the perfect mod as headers are just too damn loud on these motors.
The perfect compromise. I probably wouldn't have the ***** to cut up a stock exhaust at this point so I'm glad my car already had it done. This combined with the TCU tune creates amazing downshifts.
I also went with custom H pipe eliminating secondary cats but retaining stock exhaust. Very happy with sound.
H pipe supposedly more lower end power/torque with more muscle car sound vs X pipe more power up top higher pitch sound.
Along with the H pipe I did Weistec tune, ROW airbox high performance filters.
Very pleased with the results.
Behaves stock with enhanced sound, power and responsiveness .

The ROW air boxes and filters came yesterday and I installed them today. I don’t know why the ECS web site says they don’t fit a Black Series. They fit perfectly. Haven’t driven the car since putting them on. Will do this afternoon if it isn’t raining. I Need to find a couple of the clips for the engine cover. When I took the cover off I noticed that three clips were missing. I guess I’ll have to go to the dealer for the clips.
congrats....i had a stainless steel x-pipe installed from the downpipes to the mufflers today...heard it this AM at the shop. Will post videos when i get it back.
That sounds great Doc! Nice little bit of higher pitch (relative to H pipe) at the higher RPM. Mean sounding but not too much sound like headers would be.
it's really REALLY loud when you want it to be....not sure i could tolerate headers if they are louder, which they are. I dont want to do anything else to it. For $700 it was more than worth it, and i still have my stock parts if i want to revert back.
