Retrofit ambient light
I don't have ambient lighting in my Cls. I bought an aliexpress/ebay after market which I didnt like because it looked cheap with the led visible as a plastic strip during the day. I opened up the dashboard today and to my surprise the tubing is there just no led. So I can use the factory tubing with the aftermarket kit 😀. Just need to find the time to do it now. Will eventually do dash and all 4 doors!

Vent removal

Underside of vent, you can see the plastic strip that lights up

Plastic strip just pops out

Aftermarket kit only issue is hole is to small for the mercedes led plastic, so will need to figure out if i can pare the plastic back to make it fit

Photo taken in daylight but if i can get the plastic end smaller it will fit and light up and look stock (app alows for lots of colour modes

Have decided to leave the plastic and drill a bigger hole into the aftermarket metal bit, what could go wrong 😅

I will update the list when the install is complete but to be honest I have to much going on rite now and the weather is to cold and wet so it will be next year by the time I get around to it. But will absolutely update them ever I do finish it.

It's a different vehicle, but the same logic applies to my ML that I'm trying to retrofit. I found a cheap trim piece to start with that had the ambient light strip in it, and look at the attached picture. The MB OEM light emitter is tiny, and has it's own part number. Here's what I was going to do -- use my aftermarket AliExpress kit to power the MB emitters, but I'm not having any luck. Have been bench testing with a 9v as well, but not getting the emitter to fire up. If one could figure out how to fire that up, it would be a lot easier in your case (and mine) to plug the MB emitter onto the plastic tubing (which is the same element I have running on the trim piece I have out of another ML.
