MB is extending warranty for Exhaust valve assy
Just got a letter from MB MB extending warranty for Exhaust valve assy. googled it and found nothing.
Anyone know what this is?
applies to certain 2011-2016 V8 engines.

By your profile, I am assuming the warranty covers the M278 engine. Does it list VIN or motor numbers covered? Are you the original owner?

I received the same letter and it applies to the M278 engine.
My 2014 VIN is A092606. Extended warranty to 10 years or 120k miles, whichever is first.
Exhaust valve assembly malfunctions and throws a misfire code.
I am inclined to have this corrected but will get an estimate first.

It wasn't obvious to me in the letter, but after talking to a service advisor at my dealer, this is nothing more than a warranty extension.
While in the extended warranty period, IF the exhaust valve assembly becomes a problem, throwing a misfire code, etc., MB will correct it.
No action required until then.

Where is this "Exhaust Valve Assembly" located?
What is its function or what is the malfunction?
What is the repair?

When it fails, or malfunctions, it causes a rough idle and will trigger a check engine light with an "engine misfire code", P0300-P0308.
My dealer service rep stated that it is part of the emissions system and is located withing the cylinder head, vs external.
I expect the repair is a replacement and is labor intensive due to its location.
This letter also states that a reimbursement may be available if you own an M278 engine and have had this work done, previous to this extended warranty.
A 1967 Austin 3000? Sweet!

I believe it is the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve. it basically re-routes exhaust gas back through the combustion process to further reduce raw emissions.
When it fails, or malfunctions, it causes a rough idle and will trigger a check engine light with an "engine misfire code", P0300-P0308.

I got one for my GLB as well yesterday. I didn't know anything about that issue. I was hoping it was for the issue with leaky valves... I think Canadian owners have received them but no luck here in the US yet.
