So what was the retail price and what was the purchase price on your new CLS lease?

Also, was that payment with tax or without...?

Retail was $76,565. Purchase price was $70,503.98. I checked my paper work and I don't see any tax charged. Is anybody else going to share there lease info? I think it is very useful for any future cls owners. I wish I had this information before I started shopping.

Smile Wow!

I found to CPO CLS one with the AMG package in Florida for $59K at the benz dealership. I think I should get this one. It is black with the red interior, it is HOT. Is this a good deal or what?

Smile Uhuh...

Yes, 59K is the price on it. I am not sure with tax, but compared to 65K and up, that is a steal. I have seen some as low as 55K Buy it now, it was a black one with black interior, CPO at a dealer in Cali on Ebay. It was sold yesterday. Yes they are out there in the high 50 ranges, look for them. I WILL NEVER pay $70K, I would rather like someone else take that first depreciation hit and get a CPO. Save yourself at least 10K.

Lease/finance/purchase?

Can I ask you guys a question? I for example bought my '00 S500 in 2003. It was $78k new, I paid $43k at the time and will be lucky to get $23k now. I'm thinking of the CLS500 w/ AMG package. My question is why one would rather lease the car for 3 years rather than finance it? Glenn for example is going to pay approx. $38k to lease his but will be left with nothing after the year lease. Wouldn't I be better off paying more monthly to finance it therefore once it is paid for I could still sell the car for something? I've never financed or leased before so I'd greatly appreciate some insight on this topic.

If you are keeping your car then it's ideal to finance. If you're like me who changes cars every 3 yrs leasing is perfect. I use to finance my cars until I found myself changing it every 3-4 yrs. I end up being upside down on the trade simply because the car is worthless at the time of trade. You don't build equity in your car until the 4th year. When you see all these new model cars on the road I can't help but to replace the one I'm driving. I have the CLS500 now give me a year and will be looking for a replacement for it already. In fact, I told my wife if she wants to change it for the 550 or even the AMG model.

Well yes...

Yes it is better to buy (finance) than lease. Lease works for Glenn, and that is his preference. Me, I like to get a car and keep it, because that "trading" every 3-4 years is a waste of money to me. A lot of us, just do not have that kind of money to blow-out. IMHO, but as I say it is preference.

You guys think I can get 07 CLS 550 for 5k down $900 a month with prem 2 package and AMG package? I've been shopping around at dealers and they told me $1000 is the cheapest i can get right now because of the lease rates. They said since the 07's just came out about a month ago thats why their expensive. I was wondering if i wait another 1-2 months will prices go down? Anyone know anything about the lease rates or how this stuff work? Please let me know ASAP. Thanks in advance,
Artur

IF you can wait...the prices will probably drop come December...dealers are always trying to get last minute sales in before the new year

No longer car shopping...
It's the same as renting an apartment

My personal experience (43 years old) has demonstrated that buying is FAR better than leasing. However, I do it slightly differently than most people who lease. Seems that SO many people try to put nothing down when they buy a car and then wonder why 2 years later they owe more than the car is worth... Duh! It's because they didn't put anything down on it to begin with!!! Lot's of idiots (my opinion) are willing to RENT a car for $900-$1,300 EVERY month. As you state, at the end of the term, they may have spent $30 or $40K and have NOTHING. Whereas my last CLK55 AMG Benz cost me about $1,000 a YEAR to drive (Bought it used from a guy needing to "get out from under it" for his payoff $42,500. Drove it for two year and sold it for $40,500 - see other post on this site for details, dates, times, etc). Seems like a no-brainer. Before that I did a similar thing with a low mileage Corvette for a similar annual cost. I current drive an Acura TL I bought new. I put $6K down on it and now owe less than $14K. Based on the eBay sales this car is worth between $24K and $27K in the open market (The current KBB value is WAY out of Whack for this particular vehicle but Edmunds supports these values as do auctions and eBay). As of this November I will have owned it for three years. Original Cost was around $33,500. Separating these details shows that I have a current increase in value of my original $6K investment to about $10K...Making a profit in the first 3 years of nearly $4K. My notes are as low (and in some cases lower) than others who lease are paying (simply because of the small initial downpayment). About a year ago I considered one of the CLS500' left over from the local golf tourney. At the time the price on the car new was $75K and they were willing to sell if for $67K. I didn't feel that was a significant discount and walked away but now that I am seeing these on the market in the high 50's, my interest is once again renewed. If I did buy one, I would probably put about $20K down so that the payments would be a reasonable $600/month payments. It would loose money, and after 5 years, would probably only be worth $30K or so but that would be $30K I could use for "the next big thing". ie Pay $20K + $600/month for 60 months yields a total cost of $56K (give or take a few minor interest points) and then get my $30K back.. Total cost $36K for five years of fun. Renters on the other hand will pay A LOT more for the same kind of effect. ($1,000 * 60 = $60K and they get ZIPPO back). Of course, the leasing guys will claim that they would not lease for 5 years but probably more like 3 years. The math still factors better for purchasing. RENTING (the real word for it) only makes sense if you MUST have a NEW car and you have the mental NEED to get out of it every 3 years and don't mind PAYING for it.

Every car is different. Some cars are smarter to lease and others to buy. You typically wouldn't want to buy a CL or SL new because the depreciation will kill you if you only keep it 2-3 years. You will have already lost $40k not including the downpayment and your monthly payments. As someone said, you don't gain equity until usually the middle to end of the 4th year. For alot of people, that is fine because they keep the car. However, I don't keep cars more than 2-3 years and it's a waste for me. I arrive at the following crossroad....

A-Bought the car and when I sell it after those 2-3 years, I only break even, if not take a loss. This means I have gained nothing.

or....

B-Lease it for 30 months or so....turn it in and get the same result....I walk away owning nothing. In other words, buying yielded no extra benefit to me over leasing because in the end.

NDABUNKA....your story isn't everyones'. I bought my SL, but I don't see how someone who will lease is an idiot. The lease rates are probably a little cheaper then what I pay monthly....and people will come to 2 endings....like me, in 2.5 years when I sell the car, the car's value will likely be where the loan is at....meaning once I sell it, I have nothing left.....or someone who has leased their SL will turn it in and have the same thing in 3 years, nothing.

Cars aren't investment properties...they don't go up in value. Im my view, whenever you have something that will depreciate in value regardless of it's use (you could not drive a car for 2 years and it still will go way down in value), I put as little money into it as I can, because that is money thrown out the window. Why put $10k down for a $75k car when in one year, if I never drive it, it will still be worth $10k less? I have alot of other stuff I can do with that $10k until it may become due when the car is sold years later (if I am upside down). Money is worth more today than tomorrow.

Guys let's be sensible.....

There are over 40 CLS's throughtout the US right now for anywhere from 64K to 55K certified pre-owns with less than 20k miles on them. Why would you spend over 70K for one? Even if you have the money, I would not waste it IMHO. Oh, BTW I have seen 07 on Ebay brand new from MB dealers for about 66K, with the AMG and Premium package. So....get a deal, I am waiting. I missed an excellent CLS on Ebay from a dealer in SC, 100K warranty, AMG, and two Premium pakcages that sold for 55K with 14K on it. it was a buy it now, and was bought the same day listed.

I would rather buy than lease, I like to keep my cars but that is my preference.

WHOA!!!
