2007 CLS 550 - Stop, Car too low warning

Hi everyone, I am getting a "STOP, car too low" error message on a 2007 CLS550. The rear wheels look very low. Can any let me know what the problem and possible solutions could be or have a diagram to share on this? Thanks.

There is high possibility your air matics is out. Did you lower your car? Also, from what I know about CLS, air matics go out between 80k to 120k miles

Hi JS-CLS550, thanks for the reply. No the car is has not been lowered. The car has about 110k miles on it. Do you know of any diagrams of the air matic system available anywhere?

Unfortunately, I don't. When I had my 2009 CLS 550, air matics when out around 100k. Worst part was air matics went out 1 week after my extended warranty expired so I was pissed so I contacted MB USA. Initially, they said they wouldn't cover but later, they did cover like 70%. I will tell you it's not cheap to replace. I had 2 hat went out and 1 that was about to go out. When the air matics when out, it has similar symptoms as you did. My car drove lop sided with warning light. Also it's my understanding that the air shocks (or what ever the hell you want to call) was not well made. I recall people using after market shock to replace the Oem as supposedly it was built much better.

Try Arnott Industries. I think you can Google them.

Ok, thanks very much; This problem is not good news to hear especially with them being such nice cars.

Air bags go out, leak and it runs your suspension air compressor until it either goes bad or blows a fuse.... new Arnott air bags for the rear are between 100 and 200 each, it takes about an hour and a half to install them.... dealer will charge you about a thousand plus each.... and you have to install them in pairs.... now if it blew a fuse in the "fus block", thats another 600 bucks plus installation.... and finally the air compressor itself, that retails for about 900 from mbz but you can get an Arnott pump for 650 to 700, install takes about an hour.... none of the above is good news but the car cant be driven without the fix... good luck...

Ok, Thanks Sammyg96. I will start by checking the fuses and go from there.

bad news is the "fuse block", is in a sealed unit by the battery... took me two days and a big hammer to break it open only to find the issue was a blown fuse... non repairable... good luck

I was able to run diagnosis on my CLS550. The codes that came up are 5350 (A9/1 y1 (AIRmatic pressure relief valve): Open circuit), 5500 (Critical vehicle level at front axle), 5501 (Critical vehicle level at rear axle) and 5508 (The pressure line system leaks.). I'm assuming codes 5350 and 5508 are the cause of codes 5500 or 5501. I checked all the plugs and wiring going down to the relief valve and they all look good. Can anyone let me know if a bad relieve valve (other than bad external wiring and plugs) can cause this code, as well? Thanks.

Thanks. I changed the air compressor and 40amp fuse for it. I changed the compressor 1st but the new one did not run. I then changed the fuse and the compressor started to run so I'm not sure if the old compressor is bad or not. The thing that gets me is that MB owners manual does not tell that there are fuses (including the one for the compressor) located under the passenger side footwell. It talks about the driver side fuses, trunk fuses and fuses under the hood. SMH!

For future reference, it is talked about here:

I'm just waiting to see if the suspension air bags and valve holds air now. Thanks for the help.
