AMG #9 for me- The AMG GTS Edition 1- Pics!!!
Ive already done a writeup in another thread (on M5Post) about my test drive with this car. Let me be clear, its not the same car as the GT3 nor would I want it to since I know people will ask (I still have the GT3 but maybe it goes). The GTS is an amazing blend of trackability and streetability; with the street being more prevalent. AMG has done an excellent job with this version, inside and out. The exhaust, steering, brakes, suspension, chassis feel, and interior all are exceptional in quality and in performance. The power and pull down low and up to triple digit 100's is strong. This is definitely the fastest and quickest Benz Ive owned (stock). I got the Edition 1 because it has a few parts that are not available on normal GTS's: carbon roof, fixed rear wing, front and side aero parts, and Ive never had a grey car before. The color really pops in the sun though. The interior is amazing and the feel in the cockpit is one of the best. The Nav and larger screen along with the Benz mouse control is easy. I was able to program the entire car (lights, seats, radio, nav, etc) in about 10 minutes. Its that easy to set the car up the way you want it.
So lets see how long this one lasts....

No, I didn't actually. I test drove a red one fully loaded during the past weekend and then grabbed the ED1 once it was freed up at the port (VPC).
If I did it would be probably with a few cars Ive had or have: Jag F Type R, 991 GT3, 991 Turbo S (the non S is a better comparison though)...

Welcome to the forum.
Congrats on your new AMG. That color really enhances the exterior lines and the OEM wheels look sensational. Also love the interior accents and cabin layout. Are you keeping it stock or will it get the treatment?

you know me Dave... Ill do bpu's: wheels, suspension, tune... and resonator removal. Ill say this, the exhaust is by far the best oem one Ive heard from Benz and that's saying a boatload owning or owned multiple M156/M157 engines.

Sweet merciful baby Jesus that car is gorgeous.
Congrats man. Stunning exterior/interior color combo. Love the alcantara inserts, too. Functional, sporty, and easy to clean.

Coming from many M156/M157's, is the smaller displacement purely psychological? It's just hard to take in going from 6.2 to 5.5 and now 4.0. I suppose it will be considered the big block engine as the M157 is phased out.
Also this V8 shares a similar setup to the current BMW M cars, which you have owned previously. How does this engine compare?

Psychological? In what way- I'm not sure if I understand your question.
Its just a plain fact that its the faster car than my E63 W212, C63Black, CLS63 TT, E63TT, and SL63TT. Obviously the gearing, transmission, weight, and bias to the rear play a huge role. As for size of the engine, it personally doesn't matter to me as long as the performance is there along with the driver subjective reward/value. I can see why some just wont want to come down in displacement but a simple drive will cure such fears.
To your point about the F10/F13 M car comparos; its similar in how they perform with the turbo location, and transmission efficiency. The M engines are incredibly strong from a roll and this car "feels" similar in that regard but with less weight and more sound. The Audi RS7 has the "smaller" 4.0 engine as well (I owned one) and that car was quite formidable in oem format but with a tune it was nuts from a dig and roll. It too had great stock sound but had the Quattro understeer and the ZF8 slushbox tranny (still good for an tq converting version)
Some other key factors are the Magnetorheological dampers and motormounts. This car is planted and the steering is a strong improvement over the electronics that Benz put out in the M157 cars.

Beautiful!!
I am in the midst of ordering a new GT-S as my daily driver in L.A. I wanted all the toys, which tops out at $165K or thereabouts, and the dealers are sitting on the base 1's.
A question: I am ordering Iridium Silver. My uncle brought home, from Germany, a Gullwing in silver over red. The most beautiful car that I have ever seen. I want to recreate that look. The GT-S offers a black/red combo, and my dealer is checking to see if there is the possibility of getting a red-only seat from the factory. I don't hold out much hope.
There must be some of you who want a solid color seat in a color that MB doesn't offer; what have you found to be your quality alternatives? Who does high-end upholstering on the west coast?

This is a shop part of Mercedes AMG that can do custom work on the car, they might be able to get the interior that you want.

Indeed and that's including the C63 Black M156.. I am comparing stock to stock and the short distance from the cockpit to the rear is probably a key factor in this assessment I have made.
